A Collection of Essays | George Orwell

#IllRemember #MOvember
Just read the Orwell essay 'Such, Such Were the Joys' about the horrors of attending an English boarding school before the first World War. The living conditions were deplorable, but he also talks about the importance of remembering how children see the world to put the psychological impact of the authority his teachers wielded, and other aspects of the class divide into context.
@Cinfhen

Billypar Great essay, though weird to see 'it' used as the pronoun of choice for a child. 2w
Cinfhen That is disturbing!!! But it‘s Orwell 😉 2w
Cinfhen Vinny, I just wanted to just say how much I‘ve enjoyed your posts over the YEARS!!! I‘m stepping down from hosting the daily challenges but I‘m still here on Litsy😁My TBR thanks you for taking the journey with me ♥️ 2w

Suet624 I‘m always surprised that adults can‘t relate to the horrors of childhood and put themselves in the child‘s situation. 2w
Billypar @Cinfhen Thanks Cindy: I've had so much fun with this challenge. It was the first activity I tried on Litsy and it was the main thing that introduced me to all the fantastic people here. I also had a great time seeing everyone in person at the Philly meet-up and co-hosting #Nofemmeber Looking forward to participating in future Litsy events with you, starting with #BelowZer00s in January! 2w
Billypar @Suet624 Definitely. Orwell describes a lot of horrific conditions, but towards the end he speculates that even if those have improved over the years, it's likely that a lot of the social aspects of exclusion and discrimination still persist. Unfortunately he's probably right for the 1950s or 2019. 2w
Suet624 Agreed. 2w
Cinfhen It‘s been a fun ride and we‘re still going strong 💪🏼 2w

Memory has been an accidental major theme in my recent reading; as the four above books, all favorites, indicate. Memory plays a key role in any form of writing, fiction to nonfiction & all of the strange hybrid forms. In the books above the role of memory is more emphasized.
(After searching my feed I noticed I used the same pic of Seven & Half Deaths etc for #trytoremember prompt last December)
#IllRemember #MOvember @Cinfhen

vivastory @RealBooks4ever It's on my TBR, I've heard great things about it 2w

Ah the days of yore when the M of MTV stood for music and music videos were played in heavy rotation. 📺 During my summer vacation in Chicago I was staying with two older sisters who had cable. With that bonus MTV was constantly on and it was where I first heard of Madonna and seen her Borderline video.

#illremember #MOvember @Cinfhen

Cinfhen Yeeeeesssss!!! I was OBSESSED ❣️❣️❣️ Does MTV even play videos anymore????? 2w
Cinfhen Thanks so much for all your posts and fun banter xx I‘ve enjoyed getting to know you a bit more through these daily challenges 😁💜 2w
AnansiGirl @Cinfhen MTV was one hypnotizing channel back in its golden years. None of its programming is about music anymore. Sister channel MTV Classic is supposed to play videos up until 2000s. I‘ve yet to check it out though. 2w

The Last Conversation | Paul Tremblay
post image
Pickpick

Just finished this read that's perfect for the #IllRemember prompt. This is the first I've read anything by Paul Tremblay & it's quite astonishing the levels of dread he managed to convey in a short story/novella. A person wakes up alone in a room, trying to remember, & it's slowly revealed the condition they're in. I felt a keen sense of desolation as I read this. The confusion & the low-key creepiness felt wholly dystopic. #movember @Cinfhen

WhatWouldJaneDo I really enjoyed this novella, the ending was haunting! 2w
TrishB I like his books! 2w

The opposite of remembering is forgetting, so #illremember to forget? #MOvember @Cinfhen

Cinfhen How are you feeling?? 2w
jenniferw88 @Cinfhen I'm ok. It's quite weird actually as I didn't cry when we found out, but the actual day caused a lot of tears (and unexpected stress due to my medical stuff). Thanks for thinking of me. 2w
Cinfhen It‘s hard to say goodbye 💔I‘m glad you‘re ok. Stay strong 😘 2w

#IllRemember means I‘ll Never Forget😉 Though I think some members of Take That will be wanting to forget these hairstyles 😂😂😂

BookNAround My 22 year old son came home with this same shaggy haircut yesterday. ::sigh:: I offered to pay for a haircut but he pretended he didn‘t hear me. Maybe I should show him this picture! 😂 2w
tournevis Other than Williams, are any of them still in the music business? 2w
TheEllieMo @tournevis Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald are still touring as Take That; they released an album last year that was mostly a Greatest Hits album but with a couple of new tracks 2w

Fridameetslucy I just listened to Elton johns memoir and he speaks with great love of his friendship with Lennon and how funny Lennon was. Does this author show more than John -the-serious- Beatle in this book? 2w
CoffeeNBooks @Fridameetslucy I haven't read this one yet- I found it for this prompt, but it sounds really good! 2w
