Little Free Library find last night while walking Penny the dog. I already have copies of all but the tagged and might re-home two because I have those same editions even. But I couldn‘t resist grabbing them all. 😆

Bookwomble Nice find 😊 3mo
LeahBergen Cool! 3mo
Ruthiella @Bookwomble I know, right? 😃 3mo

Ruthiella @LeahBergen I love the cheesy covers! 3mo
Bookwomble I've collected the Pan editions where I can. I was surprised at the graphic violence in Casino Royale given its age. I haven't finished the series, yet, but I was impressed that Daniel Craig's interpretation seems to be the closest to Fleming's original. 3mo
dabbe Great haul! 🤩 3mo
Ruthiella @Bookwomble I‘ve not seen any of the newer films but I do remember the torture scene from Casino Royale, pretty brutal. 😱 3mo
Ruthiella @dabbe I got pretty lucky. 😃 3mo

Doctor No | Ian Fleming

An interesting experiment: read the original Fleming, watch the adaptation starring Connery and then read the P Everett update, and post about your experience!!
Calling the bravest Littens for an arbitrary experiment!!

TheBookHippie Oooooo 5mo
vivastory @TheBookHippie I think that you can do it! I'd love to see your feedback 😄

TieDyeDude That sounds like fun! I've never read any of the Fleming novels. I'd be down. 5mo

TheBookHippie @vivastory I think I have the book here 👀 5mo
Ruthiella I‘ve already done all three, though not back to back. Dr. No is IMO the movie that most closely resembles the books, though I stopped watching the movies in the‘90s. 5mo
Larkken This would be a lot of fun 5mo
CarolynM I agree with @Ruthiella that the film is close to the book. From Russia With Love is pretty close too. I‘m not usually keen on updates, I‘ll be interested to see what you think. 5mo
Fr3NcHtOaSt I gotta do this at some point. I‘m a huge Bond fan 5mo
Branwen Okay, this sounds SUPER fun! 5mo
Reggie Sir, when you watch 28 years later please let me know because I have thoughts. lol 5mo
vivastory @Reggie Going to have to watch it soon! For some reason I haven't felt like going to the movies lately but I have watched a few vod movies lately (Notable: Final Destination Bloodline & Death of a Unicorn) 5mo

David Tennant is my favorite Doctor & one of my favorite actors, so I jumped at the chance to listen to him narrate. And who doesn't love James Bond?

Me. I don't love James Bond. Not as books - I enjoy the films as much as the next person. The books are dated & problematic in places, but that's understandable. IMO, the action scenes translate so much better to film, even with such a great narrator.

8/100 this time. There are few that look interesting, I always meant to watch seven.

I recently read my first Fleming, which has an early opening scene in a casino.
Michael Mechanic's nf “Jackpot“ also has some memorable scenes in it regarding the excesses of the wealthy.

Liz_M other than ~waves hands around~ all this I've been okay. I'm looking forward to hearing about your reading when/if you post it! 9mo

Dr No: James Bond 007 | Ian Fleming

Mehso-so

Ian Fleming, I'm pretty sure that women have never smelt like a combination of freshly mown hay and sweet pepper, I can not even imagine what that smells like. That's some imagination!

This book is of course filled with the usual racism and misogyny found in the previous books but that aside there's something compelling about these, the ridiculousness of the plot I guess is enough to keep me turning those pages.

There did seem to be far less problematic content in this entry compared to the first two books and it was great to see Bond blown out by a woman finally!

These books are a real eye opener for me, I was always under the impression that Bond was a super spy, intelligent, no one could fool Bond. However he comes across very ditzy to me, easily fooled and not particularly clever.

Pikathulhu The books definitely portray a very different Bond than the movies! 3y
Michellesibs @Pikathulhu I'm starting to realise the extent of this! So different x 3y
