The Girls: A Novel | Emma Cline
Mehso-so

Well...Took me 5 days to finish this book. I just couldn't get into it. I didn't connect with the story or any of the characters. The effort of trying to create this story over shadowed the story. It felt so over done, over created, over written. Guess this just wasn't for me. Does she have other books? Do they all read the same way. #didntlikebutstillfinished #botm #goodreads #readingchallenge #aroundtheyearin52books

Reviewsbylola Completely agree, it was very overdone. This was her debut and it will be interesting to see where she goes next. 7y
asiriusreader Definitely agree about the 'over effort' with the writing. 7y

This is a book I #didntlikebutstillfinished. I just didn't care about any of the characters. Or the plot. It just wasn't for me. *shrugs* #marchintoreading

Marla Same here. I liked her other trilogy but just couldn't get into this one. 7y
Celeste57 @Marla I haven't tried her other trilogy. I'll have to give it a go one day. 😉 7y

I hated the main character, Karen. She is judgemental, condescending and racist all under the disguising of being a do good liberal (and as a liberal myself her attitude begged me the hell out of me)

Drood: A Novel | Dan Simmons

For both of these, I #didntlikebutstillfinished them. I made my family miserable during both of them, because I complained so much. My husband begged me to get rid of both of them. He kept pointing to my TBR shelf and begging me to move on, but I persisted for both. I can at least appreciate Jane Eyre. I know it is a well-loved classic. Drood was just long and terrible. #marchintoreading
