#FabulousFebruary #Readathon #checkin

Listening to audiobook daily -TGT; on ch 16.
Up to date with TFO but tempted to keep on reading
Behind on goal for WRBG.
3chapters to catch up on in MP
Starting ATBOA tonight.
I feel good about my participation in this Readathon- has kept me focused. It is challenging to read these days during the week when I am working.

Finished the last book of the current #LMPBC round and my first cozy. It was an easy read, predictable (in a good way), and very enjoyable. I loved guessing (accurately) what would happen next. If this is what cozies are like, I will read more. Only one thing that I didn‘t like-The title really had no connection with the story. 3/5 🍄s

3.5 ⭐️ I didn‘t realize this was a cozy mystery until quite a bit into it lol. It is a fast read. The writing is smooth, enjoyable and I was actually surprised how quickly it read it.

A young girl from an aristocratic background falls on hard times and by pure chance (and some lying) becomes a cook for the queen of England. There‘s lots of cooking, mentions of class (superiors / inferiors lol) and of course a mystery. #LMPBC #GROUPJ #ROUND10

Yay! I finished it! This is my selection for #LMPBC Round 10 Group J - historical fiction. It‘s also my #DoubleSpin for November! I chose this book because I really like Rhys Bowen and my son is a chef, and it‘s about Queen Victoria‘s kitchen. Would the relationship between the Queen and the MC, Bella/Helen really be possible? Hmmm... #feastmode #NovelNovember and #24B4Monday What an end to November! And I have 1 more to add!

TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 5y
Hazel2019 Yay! Can‘t wait to read this one! 😊 5y
Andrew65 A good author! Good start 👏👏👏 (edited) 5y
Allylu I'm adding a tag to @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick for #CrushtheRush on this one, too. 5y

This is it, @Leftcoastzen . I can never resist this sort of book at a charity sale. 😆

Leftcoastzen That‘s amazing! Bet the author , Toni Tipton Martin ,would rather have your edition .😄 5y
Leftcoastzen I absolutely would have been thrilled to find that at a charity sale! WooHoo! 5y

LeahBergen @Leftcoastzen We have two really big sales here per year and they were canceled this year because of Covid. 😭😭 I said it was like cancelling my Christmas. 😂 5y
merelybookish @LeahBergen I was just telling one of my kids how much I miss the library sales. 🙁 5y
Leftcoastzen No kidding! There were 2 big rummage sales near me cancelled, 3 small library sales ,cancelled! I understand but , the worst is a charity book sale that has been going on here for 60+ years,is the size of a fairground size exhibition hall, (!!!) is cancelled for next February!😫😭 5y
Leftcoastzen @merelybookish It‘s breaking my heart! I also look for bargains for my friend and mom who can‘t do those sales anymore, and those odd treasures you find! Argh! 5y
vivastory @merelybookish @Leftcoastzen I was literally just a few days ago thinking about how much I miss the library sales 🙁📚🙁📚 5y
Leftcoastzen @vivastory It‘s killing me. Untold treasures found cheap are amazing! You never know what you might find. (edited) 5y
merelybookish @vivastory @Leftcoastzen Funny what we mourn. I have kind of accepted I might never go to a movie theatre again. But missing library sales makes me so sad. 5y
vivastory @merelybookish @leftcoastzen I can handle the movie theatre, because most movies are streaming immediately anyways. But library sales and live performances ... 😭 5y
Leftcoastzen @vivastory no live music !😫 5y
vivastory @Leftcoastzen I was supposed to see Tame Impala & Perfume Genius this summer. I'm just sayin'.... 5y
merelybookish @vivastory Wow those would have been great shows! I am also mourning live music. I was supposed to see Laura Marling and Sturgill Simpson in the spring. 5y
LeahBergen @Leftcoastzen @vivastory @merelybookish Right?? With so many things I was like “well, that‘s inconvenient”. Book sales, author events, and other live shows hit close to home. ☹️ 5y
vivastory @merelybookish That would have been amazing! I have been following Sturgil Simpson for years & Marling's “Held Down“ is one of my fave singles of the year. I should check out her album. Going to add it on spotify 5y
rubyslippersreads Library sales and thrift shops are two things I really, really miss. I ❤️ the thrill of the hunt. 5y

I am so happy right now! How could I resist this James Beard winning cookbook!Toni Tipton-Martin spent years accumulating on of the world‘s largest collection of cookbooks published by African American authors to look for evidence of influence on food & American culture.A beautiful book by a cultural historian ? Yes please! As I deny I collect cookbooks and have approximately 250 .🙄❤️📚

LeahBergen Oh, jeez. Yeah, that‘s me, too (I probably have a couple of hundred as well). 😆 I bought a really cool older one at a sale a couple of years ago that is right in line with this post. Have you ever heard of it? 5y
LeahBergen Oh, it‘s written by the white family whose cook he was for 40 odd years. It‘s quite an interesting little bit of cookery history. 5y
LeahBergen And I may need this book, too. 😆 5y
Leftcoastzen U of Texas had 40% off sale that expired 8/31 . They do sales periodically but not sure what policy/ shipping is to Up North , 🇨🇦right? 5y
LeahBergen @Leftcoastzen Yep, 🇨🇦! 5y

This just worked for me👩‍🍳I loved the time (Victorian London) and the setting ( Palace of Queen Victoria & French Rivera ) and the narration was impeccable 🎧🇬🇧Bella, once a young aristocrat finds her fortunes reversed and is placed into servitude. She comes by a position in the Queen‘s Kitchen by trickery. The attention to detail was wonderful & I enjoyed reading all the delicious food dishes described. Good fun, perhaps far-fetched
