The #WeeklyForecast is actually looking pretty reasonable. I am better than halfway through the tagged and should finish it today. Then we will see how far I get through the rest of the windowsill!! We got a bunch of lumber and supplies for the next round of home renovation yesterday, so I will probably be doing some painting again this week. Neverending!! 😂

@Cinfhen

Cinfhen Oh wow🙌🏻I see real progress 🫶🏼 1y
TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen - Thank you!!! I've tried to narrow down the number of challenge and buddy reads I'm doing this year to make this windowsill stay more manageable 😂 1y

Well, I have done a terrible job posting reviews this week, but let the #BookReport reflect that I HAVE been reading! 😂 I finished Shelter in Place, The Provincial Lady in London, and The Horse-Tamer towards the beginning of the week (for #TrappedonanIsland, #LPMBC, and #Roll100 respectively lol), then threw myself in the #BacklistReadathon. Only one and half books left in the Chesapeake Shores series!! They have definitely been a mixed bag ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd)(I couldn't STAND the main character in The Christmas Bouquet - what a BRAT) but on the whole they've been pretty standard fare. Shelter in Place was a bit intense - I did enjoy it but I don't think I would reread it. Provincial Lady was fun but not AS fun as the first book. The Horse-Tamer is a childhood reread & actually one of my favorite Walter Farley books. All in all a solid week, checking off some challenges and #SeriesLove2023 too! 1y

TheAromaofBooks @rockpools @BkClubCare - Thanks!! I'm trying to keep it more under control this year, but you can see how that's going 😂 1y

February's #BacklistReadathon is swiftly approaching!! I'm using this challenge to tie-in with #SeriesLove2023 by picking a series that I'm “behind“ on every month. I've ambitiously checked out all five books I have left in the Chesapeake Shores series by Sherryl Woods (starting with the tagged), but we'll see how far I get!!

Be sure to let @Clwojick and me know if you're planning to join and which author you're hoping to read!!

Clwojick I love her books! Good luck, and enjoy! 1y
tpixie Fun! I‘m going to an author event next week and so for the last month I‘ve been reading one book from 16 of the 20 authors (so far) back list. Maybe I should‘ve used your # !! Although I‘m just reading one each so far because there‘s just so many of them. But I do think I want to deep dive into this author‘s back list. 1y
TheAromaofBooks @tpixie - Oh, that sounds so fun!!! 1y

tpixie @TheAromaofBooks yes I‘m excited. My oldest son lives in San Diego also, so that‘s really awesome. They do have a virtual option- unfortunately this year it‘s on a weekday. https://adventuresbythebook.com/event/super-book-iv-2-16-23/ (edited) 1y
TheAromaofBooks Thanks for the info - hope you have a fabulous time!! 1y
TLuvs This sounds motivating to get out the overlooked TBRs and finally read them! I'll join and pick Sally Thorne's '99 Percent Mine'. 1y
TheAromaofBooks @TLuvs - Yay!! Glad to have you along!!! 1y

Pickpick

Continuing my read of the Chesapeake Shores series conveniently took me to a Christmas episode next. The entire clan travels to Ireland with Gram (gosh I wish I was rich) for the Christmas season. We've moved from the original O'Brien siblings to three cousins. While I did like Matthew and Laila together everyone just keeps saying they have a big age gap but not how much, which kept me a little on the fence with shipping them (10 years? 25?) ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) The usual fluff I have come to expect from this series but nothing groundbreaking. 1y

Actually a pretty solid week - it's a little bit of a lull with peaches winding down but apples/my delivery route not in full-force yet - that changes next week as I'll be taking over the Tuesday night farmers' market stall plus doing deliveries two days a week!! Anyway, checked several books off the list, plus finished both July and August #BookSpin books. Hoping to finish the tagged book today, but I'm working all day even though I usually have⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Saturdays off - my coworker is off to a wedding for the day and I am covering the shift!! A couple of these books were my #TrappedonanIsland picks for August. I read 2/5, which was my goal (!) but the others are leaving the windowsill for now as I am not going to do carry-overs with that challenge. Not as many September additions as usual, actually, so tomorrow's pic of the Windowsill of Optimism isn't looking too bad!!

@Cinfhen

marleed I love this shifting shelf! 2y
TheAromaofBooks @marleed - Thank you!! Having all my “shortlist“ TBR books in one place has really helped me keep my reading focused this year!!! Even if the windowsill does sometimes get a little overwhelmed 😂 2y

When I don't feel well, I want fluff, so I picked up the next book in the Chesapeake Shores series. In the first three books, about three different siblings (of six) the background story is the parents, who have been divorced for a long time, slowly getting back together, and this book focused on them. I did enjoy it, but also didn't feel like the whole situation with Megan's gallery was very well resolved. That's really been my overall issue ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) with this series - a character will have a valid issue and then in the end it's just like “oh love solves everything, yay!“ instead of actually addressing them?? And it really aggravates me. Still. A soft pick.

Clwojick I hate when an author does that! They make a point of introducing a legitimate concern/situation, and then just fluffs over it so it can end with a happy ending. I‘m like where is the resolution? Why are they still not communicating? Lol 2y
Librarybelle Yeah, that‘s a disappointment! But, yay for fluff reading! 2y
TheAromaofBooks @Clwojick - Right?? What's the point of creating this concern if you aren't going to have the characters address it?? This author seems to make a habit of doing this, so I'm not sure if I want to finish the series lol 2y

Mehso-so

I have mixed feelings about this series. I really love the fun, obnoxious family and the setting, but sometimes the "drama" feels so contrived, and in this book it just seemed like the main characters went in circles and I never was convinced they actually went forward (spoiler below). I own some of the later books in this series which is why I started it, but I think it gets one more chance before I throw in the towel!

TheAromaofBooks The whole story MMC wants to take things slow & FMC is basically like “no, I want sex now,“ which felt awkward. I constantly felt like the MMC was being harassed by his family and by the FMC to just “get over“ his issues. THE FINAL CHAPTER he again says he thinks they should take things slow; FMC says “fine then it's over“ and then HE PROPOSES?!?!?! “Oh I have the ring right here, totally ready for commitment!“ It just felt awkward & unrealistic. 2y
Librarybelle Yikes! I‘ve not read anything by Woods, but the ending sounds a bit unrealistic. 2y

TheAromaofBooks @Librarybelle - There was a conversation where the MMC is basically like, “Sex isn't casual to me & I don't think it should happen without a genuine, committed relationship“ & the FMC was like “well we're both adults & I think we should have sex while being friends & if you don't like it we're over“ & I just kept wondering how that would read if the M/F roles were reversed?? I really felt like the MMC concerns were blown off because he was a guy😕 2y
Librarybelle 😮 Wow! 2y

Okay, so I actually did read several books while I was lounging about pretending like my insides weren't waiting to attack me. However, I was a smidge feverish during some of them, so it may have impacted my perspective 😂 At any rate, please excuse the upcoming small review binge.

This one is the 2nd book in the Chesapeake Shores series, focusing on another O'Brien sibling. Bree returns home from Chicago, unsure what she wants to do with her ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) life next and despite the fact that she actually writes plays for a living, decides that it would be a great idea to use her life savings to open a flower shop downtown!! Readers will be unsurprised to find out that the ONLY wholesaler within reasonable distance is (duh duh DUH) THE EX-BOYFRIEND SHE ABANDONED TO CHASE HER BIG-CITY DREAMS! What will happen next?!

Okay, so this was totally predictable but I still enjoyed it for 90% of ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) of time, especially because I wasn't feeling well and predictability = relaxing for me. However, I did feel like Jake needed to get over himself. After a while I got really tired of listening to how Bree had betrayed him and he's sooo scared that his heart is going to get broken again blah blah blah like dude, MAN UP. I honestly would not have been as persistent as Bree; I think I would have moved on with my life after like round 10 of ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) of getting blown off. The ending drama lasted way too long and then just suddenly disappeared, and I honestly was left not actually believing that Jake was genuinely ready to move on, because we just spend like 350 pages of him refusing to believe anything Bree says... and then in the last chapter he's just like, “Oh my gosh! You're right! I believe that you're really staying! Yay!“ and I wasn't sure I was actually buying it.

So, a fine⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) if completely predictable romance, but I like my men a little less self-absorbed than Jake.
