On the Banks of Plum Creek | Laura Ingalls Wilder
post image

Was anyone else left traumatized as a child by this Little House scene? No? Just me? 😆

Laura is forced to give her beloved rag-doll, Charlotte, to the bratty neighbour child ... and then discovers her abandoned and #Frozen in a puddle. 😩😩😩

#WinterWonderland

TrishB Sometimes childhood is soooo hard 😔 5y
vivastory And this is why I don't loan books 😂 5y
Cinfhen Oh wow!!! #BookTrauma I thought I had finally put this incident behind me😂 5y

saresmoore I think I was traumatized by every Little House book. Not sure why I kept going back to them! Ha! 5y
JillR Oh yes this was awful, but Bella and I thought the cows with the frozen heads was even worse 😱 5y
Amiable Oh, God, I'd forgotten about that until I saw the illustration. And then it all came back. 😳 5y
CouronneDhiver This actually happened to me with a baby doll called Joy. 😐 I had no idea a literary character shared my experience. Lol 5y
FeatherV Oh my god I was so mad 5y
Irockpolkadots So traumatic. I lost it when they had to keep going without Jack. Man, I keep intending to reread those books, but never do! I just put it on my New Years resolution for 2019! Also, I‘m new to Litsy, and the first post I see was this one. So fun since I lived for these books as a child. 5y
Redwritinghood 😭😭 5y
Reviewsbylola I‘m not sure I ever read the Little House books. 😱😱 I don‘t even know why, I certainly knew about them and I think I would have liked them. 5y
llwheeler I forgot about this! But funny thing, I reread these so much as a kid (like, whole series 20+ times) and I always had to read them in order, never skipped books, but Plum Creek was the only one I sometimes had to force myself to get through in order to continue with the rest of the series. Maybe this was part of why. 5y
BarbaraBB Great post! I don‘t remember it though ☺️ 5y
LeahBergen @TrishB Isn‘t it though? 😩 5y
LeahBergen @vivastory Right? 😂 I much prefer to just give books to people! 5y
LeahBergen @Cinfhen 😂😂 Sorry! 5y
LeahBergen @saresmoore It‘s actually pretty crazy how vividly I remember some scenes from these books considering I can‘t remember something I read two months ago. 😆 5y
LeahBergen @JillR Oh, that too! 😩 5y
LeahBergen @Amiable I‘m traumatizing everyone all over again. 😆 5y
LeahBergen @CouronneDhiver You had to give it away? Tell me you didn‘t find it frozen into a puddle, too! 😮 5y
LeahBergen @FeatherV I can still feel my childhood rage. 😆 5y
LeahBergen @Irockpolkadots Welcome to Litsy! And I‘m sorry your first viewing of a post was this one. 😂😂 I‘ve been meaning to do a reread of this series for years, too. 5y
LeahBergen @Redwritinghood Exactly! 😩 5y
LeahBergen @Reviewsbylola Oh, you‘ll have to read them with your girls! 5y
LeahBergen @llwheeler Oddly, Plum Creek was one of my favourites. It‘s probable due to the fact that it was the first one I read. 🤔 Once I owned the whole series I would always read them in order, too. 😆 5y
LeahBergen @BarbaraBB So You weren‘t traumatized. 😆 5y
batsy Like @BarbaraBB I'd completely forgotten this scene 😲 5y
CouronneDhiver Face down in the mud along the fence of our shared backyard. I had forgotten all about it until this post. Lol #KidProblems 5y
LeahBergen @batsy I‘m sorry for the literary flashback. 😆😆 5y
LeahBergen @CouronneDhiver Noooooo! That‘s so sad! 😩😩 5y
Chrissyreadit I am in the minority of not a fan of Little House Books and chose not to introduce my children when they were young. I struggle with pa in blackface and bad injuns, and worry that shapes young minds into accepting microaggressions as normal because they were presented in a positive format. 😥😿🙍‍♀️ 5y
LeahBergen @Chrissyreadit I fully understand! A friend of mine who recently read the series to her children did a little “selective editing” and added many teachable moments to explain things. 5y
Chrissyreadit @LeahBergen that‘s awesome. 5y
