While there are sections that get lost in the weeds, overall this is a fascinating look at what really happens during crises; not the chaos and looting we expect and often see in movies and even news, but people supporting people. I think the Katrina section could/should have been its own book, really, but I learned a lot. Goes well with Hope in the Dark.

A meaningful, hopeful call to action about leaving the world a better place than we found it. MacAskill convinced me that even the smallest actions that I‘m taking now can help make a positive impact on future lives. I mistakenly assumed this was solely about climate change; that‘s a big section, but this covers much more and was surprisingly philosophical. I often consider my kids‘ futures, in thoughts and actions, so this really spoke to me.

It‘s a confronting and challenging read, especially if you‘re prone to philosophical debates in your own mind. It‘s important to allow time to read Strangers Drowning gradually, and take breaks to think over what you‘ve read before continuing. A must-read for fans of The Good Place! The topics in here are interesting, the data well researched, and writing clear. I‘ve read a few books on this topic and this one just didn‘t keep me turning the pages as quickly. Good points, however.

🐕 For Betty White‘s 100th birthday, here are some awesome nf rescue books:
🐶 The Lost Dogs by Jim Gorant - the rescue and reform of fighting dogs w/help from Best Friends Animal Society in UT.
🐕 tagged - a man & his wife form Rancho de Chihuahua in NM.
🐶 My Life Among the Underdogs by Tia Torres - Tia founded Villalobos Rescue Center in LA, but the book is about the dogs that became a part of her family.
