The Lily of Ludgate Hill | Mimi Matthews

I‘ve noticed with this series that by the time the author gets around to describing the love interest he doesn‘t match my mental image of him. Felix Hartford, who has appeared in the previous 2 books, is made out to be a fop which had me imagining him as a skinny Bertie Wooster type figure. Instead he turns out to be tall and imposing (though he doesn‘t tend to come across like that in character) with broad shoulders and a ‘square-chiselled jaw‘.

humouress Ch 11. Unfortunately she‘s reverting to the abbreviated, ungrammatical sentences which marred the beginning of the previous book in the series. A few other niggles; there are clichés and non-communication scattered around. This story is a combination of Austen‘s ‘Emma‘/ ‘Persuasion‘/ ‘Pride and Prejudice‘/ 'Mansfield Park'. (edited) 1d

Fourth book in the Belles of London series.

Stella needs to get out from under her brother's thumb. But how shall this prematurely grey equestrian make a living for herself and her horse. Artist Teddy, bound to a wheelchair, has just found his muse, but does he dare make Stella an offer she should definitely refuse if she wants to protect her reputation?

I liked the representation of a disabled person in Victorian times.⬇️

julesG Otherwise solid #HistoricalRomance. Marriage of convenience that turns into a love-match. 4mo

A very sweet second chance romance. I loved how patient Felix was in waiting for Anne to be ready to move forward with him. Thanks to Goodreads for the free ebook!

This was a fun read, better than the 2nd book in the series. The characters grew a lot and while it‘s irritating that the series is kind of parallel, if you read them all at once I imagine it‘s fun.
Anne must decide if she‘s been honest with herself or if Hart, whom she loves to hate, is correct and she‘s lost herself to her mother‘s grief. Hidden families, witty flirtation through writing and horses makes this complex and fun.
4.5/5 stars

I‘ve enjoyed all the entries in this historical romance series (I feel like Mimi Matthew‘s is becoming an auto-read author for me). This one especially nailed all of the romance tropes it includes (childhood friends > lovers > enemies > lovers), by actually making the scenario feel realistic based on the characters‘ circumstances and the timeline of their relationship.
