It is a truth universally acknowledged that a lady in danger must be in need of rescue, but whether she wants to be rescued is up for debatefor fans of Evie Dunmore and Netflix's Bridgerton from the bestselling author of A Lady's Guide to Mischief and Mayhem! England, 1867: Miss Poppy Delamare is living a lie. To escape an odious betrothal, she fled to London where shes been hiding as the unassuming secretary Flora Deaver. However, when her beloved sister is accused of murder, Poppy cannot leave her to the wolves. Only a most unexpectedand unwelcomecollision interrupts her journey home . . . Despite a rather dismal first meeting, Joshua Fielding, the Duke of Langham, has no intention of abandoning a lady in need. But hes not above asking a favor. A fake betrothal will give Poppy and her sister the power of the dukedom and protect Langham from the society misses intent on becoming his duchess. Yet the longer the ruse goes on, the more Poppy and Langham realize how false their first impressions wereand the less pretend their engagement feels. But before Langham can propose in truth, their search reveals a tangled web of lies and betrayals. With time running out, can Poppy and Langham find the real culpritbefore Poppy becomes the next victim?

This fun read ticked a lot of boxes for me. The author describes it as an historical mystery romcom, and I can‘t improve on that. And interesting mystery set in Victorian England, a delightful romance between the very likable main characters. What‘s not to love? Picked this up at the library, and now I want to find the other books in the series.

Loved this book! I even read some of it in the car (while in the passenger site), which is a big deal because I usually feel car sick.

This is the 3rd book in the Lady‘s Guide series. Follows Poppy (Flora) and Duke of Langham. Poppy‘s sister is accused of murder and it‘s in the town the Duke‘s estate is in. So they work together and has secret cults.

#thingsincommon - have blurb on cover (this next round of books was hard to match!)

Negatives: needed better editing—there were at least 2 times a character explained to another character the same thing they explained a few pages ago. Toward the end, 1 character was in 2 places at once.
—The 3rd in this series, all have used enemies-to-lovers trope & think all have professed love while the killer is still being taken away.
Positives—a fun, romance with a little mystery. I like the MCs. Easy read. 3.5/5 ⭐️

Or maybe this is the #Aardvark regency romance? This is my last guess, it's getting out of hand and I'm driving myself crazy 😂
