Uplifting and powerful, Malala is a force of nature and one of the bravest people I‘ve ever had the pleasure to learn from. Highly recommend! #ReadHarder #challenge #Booked2020 #BannedBook #SetinSouthernAsia This book completes my #ReadHarder and #booked2020 challenges! @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

I absolutely loved this excellent adventure about friendship and beetles! Margery Benson at 46 embarks on a lifelong dream quite abruptly to New Caledonia in 1950. I smiled as I read most of it- laughed out loud and had to muffle some sobs too! The characters all leap off the page- this is my first experience with Joyce‘s writing but it won‘t be my last! Definitely a favorite of 2020!! #TopReads2020 #SetInSouthernAsia #Booked2020

Two women in Afghanistan, 100 years apart, who struggle with the limitations of being female and having no power over your own life. Both get to act in the world as men for a limited time but it is not enough to keep them safe for long. Both story lines are equally compelling as they illustrate how little has changed in the lives of women in a century. #booked2020 #setinsouthernasia

I‘ve read a few war corespondent books now, and this was the most unique...not only does she cover the war zones of Afghanistan & Pakistan, but she also writes about the absurdities of the Americans working there & the missteps many made in dealing with these countries. From bombings to toga parties, the Taliban to karaoke in brothels, having colleagues kidnapped to being hit on by local leaders, this book is so honest you wish it was fiction.⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa As she says in the credits, “If comedy is tragedy plus time, time has been compressed into minutes in that part of the world.” And it shows in this book that will make you laugh as you shake your head at it all and mourn our missteps. Originally published as The Taliban Shuffle, then republished as Whiskey Tango Foxtrot after a movie by the same name. 4y
