Highly opinionated! If opinions of author are removed the book would be reduced to half of the pages it has. Even the opinions are flawed and contradicting each other at some instances, some opinions are based on now rejected theories. Not recommended if you want to read it to seriously know about history. It is a series of op-ed more than a history book, consisting chiefly of author's rant.

412 p. Loved the beginning. Author presented a different take on early humans and evolution, and up until he started talking about economics and money, it was a fascinating read. The 2nd part of the book felt more like an opinion rather than factful story and I did not enjoy it as much.

I wanted to expand my horizons into what I don't usually read. So I found some interest in Sapiens as I do have an interest in history.

The beginning of this book fasinated me as it mentions the development of the cognitive function of humans. It was mind-opening as the information within this book exposes many perspectives to the reader and changes ways of thinking. Though there is alot to read.

"Modern day science is a unique tradition of knowledge, as it openly admits collective ignorance regarding the most important questions" - Yuval Noah Harari ❤
A must read book for all ??

It appears that the size of human brains have been decreasing compared to the forager days. The irony. As we modernize, the need to require superb mental abilities and agility decreases because apparently, we now no longer need to rely on massive brain power and superb agility to survive in today's world. Ha! And here I am, being so proud of my intelligence. 😂 #sapiens #yuvalnoahharari #audiobook #nonfiction #polyreader #nowlistening #nowreading

Another book club book. Excited wouldn't be the word I would use to describe how I feel about reading this book, but I am interested.
More to come!

This comes from a section about sex, gender, and sexuality. I thought it was an interesting rule of thumb.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa That‘s a good one! My first thought was Jurassic Park, “nature will find a way”, and if nature finds a way to do it, then it is by definition...natural. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa That‘s a good pop culture connection! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @BarbaraTheBibliophage Thank you! I know this discussion was hot & heavy during the debate over homosexuality not too long ago. Animals show homosexual behavior in nature, so how then can it be immoral/unnatural/against god when it is exhibited in nature. It then becomes the argument that it is unnatural and humans should rise above it, or as this states, culturally forbid it. Discussions we had in the 80‘s, can I hope we have evolved?🤷‍♀️ 3y

brandybear22 A good contrast, nature and culture, quite relevant with sex, sexuality, gender. Things I ponder all the time. Where we are, where we‘ve been 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I hope we‘ve evolved also, but then I see the argument still raging. It makes me both angry and sad to see. 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @brandybear22 Yes, for sure. I wish I could post this entire section of the book, because the food for thought is deep. 3y

Harari isn‘t sugarcoating this. Sapiens do not have a history of being nice people.

Aleida That‘s interesting. We really do like to group things together. And separate things that are different. 3y

Admittedly, I‘m not an archaeology student or reader. This is news to me!

p.s. @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘m going in! Looking forward to this month‘s read!

BarbaraTheBibliophage @LitLogophile Come join us—or just live vicariously. @Riveted_Reader_Melissa and I always post a lot of quotes! 3y
Slajaunie I have studies some anthropology and I had never heard that. Interesting. 3y
ChristieWitch @Slajaunie I would think they are referring to the various species of humans in terms of paleolithic man (neanderthal, homo habilis, etc.) We don't always consider them as a separate human species but they have significant changes to physiology, brain capacity and cognition, etc. (I have a minor in anthropology 😊) 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ChristySevern @Slajaunie “The cradle of humanity continued to nurture numerous new species, such as Homo rudolfensis, ‘Man from Lake Rudolf‘, Homo ergaster, ‘Working Man‘, and eventually our own species, which we‘ve immodestly named Homo sapiens, ‘Wise Man‘.” 3y
ChristieWitch @BarbaraTheBibliophage ❤❤ It's been awhile I couldn't remember the rest lol I took human evolution during my UG and learned about each one but that was like 4 yrs ago 😇😊 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @ChristySevern There are a few others too. Either way, you‘re ahead of me. But this is why I read! 3y
ChristieWitch @BarbaraTheBibliophage Read away! Early man is an interesting period in human history 💓 my son will fight anyone who denies human evolution now because I would tell him about the things I learned in class 😂 3y
AnimalRiotPress This book was so amazing that we did our first podcast about it! Hope you like it! 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I was an anthropology student! I‘m so excited to read this. I‘ll be diving in as soon as I finish 3y
