Year of the Monkey | Patti Smith

Mehso-so

Sadly, I was less than impressed with this book. The topics of aging and death are always fascinating to me and I wanted to read of her companionship with Sam Shepard at the end of his life but none of it really moved me. The last third of this slim book was a bit more interesting, especially her thoughts on the election. One short chapter titled Why Belinda Carlisle Matters almost made the book worthwhile.

Palimpsest I couldn‘t get into this either. I only read the beginning when she was staying at the hotel and wandering around and when it didn‘t speak to me I took it back to the library. I was disappointed. 1w
Suet624 Yes. Good to hear. At that point in the book I started skimming, which I don‘t like to do. The last third finally grabbed my attention. 1w
Reggie Why does Belinda Carlisle matter? 🎵Circle in the sand, round and round, a never ending love is what we‘ve found....🎵 1w

Suet624 @Reggie 😂😂 She‘s got the beat! 😀😀 1w
VioletBramble I finished this book last night. Definitely my least favorite of her books. The paragraph in your photo was probably my favorite part of the book. 5d
Suet624 @VioletBramble Definitely disappointing. 😞 4d

M Train | Patti Smith

An interesting book that you can read and analyse from different angles. I guess I was more on the side of the very not “artist“ person so some stuff seams a little bit like a non-sense to me. It made me question myself, made me try to get more open-minded about differences but it did not make me want to know more about Patti Smith, even if I tried I feel a little kind of indifferent. I'll have more thoughts about it and this feeling may change.

Suet624 @Leftcoastzen @eggs while I get overwhelmed by my boxes and shelves of books, your last line is exactly how I feel as I grab 5 more books from the library. (edited) 1mo

Pickpick

Simply but beautifully told, I was immediately drawn in with her gentle rhythm and fascinated from page 1 of Patti Smith's memoir.

Yet you could feel a vibration in the air, a sense of hastening. It had started with the moon, inaccessible poem that it was. Now men had walked upon it, rubber treads on a pearl of the gods. Perhaps it was an awareness of time passing, the last summer of the decade. Sometimes I just wanted to raise my hands and stop. But stop what? Maybe just growing up.

Started a new book this morning, which is really good so far, but I am a bit distracted as this furball of energy adopted me today 😻

I do believe in theme reading, so when I went to NYC in December, I saw the Guggenheim‘s Mapplethorpe exhibit while reading Patti Smith‘s great memoir.

Jane says, “Although I found myself charmed by these bohemian scamps, the time has come for them to go back to the library.” #returns

I was definitely excited when this book came out, and I can't believe it's been ten years! Maybe I should pick it up again... #BookYouReadIn2010 #AuldLangReads
