The Sentence | Louise Erdrich

Mehso-so

I was a bit disappointed in this read. Maybe it is too soon for me to read #PandemicFiction or maybe this one is just not my style. I will read her other works and see how they are, but I just couldn‘t connect to the story very much. But I do enjoy the author‘s writing style. #AuthorAMonth #LouiseErdrich #January

tpixie I felt the same way. Loved the characters and their relationships, but the whole George Floyd, and pandemic storylines could have been left out. She seemed to tackle too many story lines in this book. 1y

Well, I‘ve finished the #PandemicFiction #ToBplayin round, and here are my thoughts. I haven‘t written reviews of Copeland Cane or The Sentence yet, but hopefully will later today. I read Friends the week it came out in case you‘re dying to read my review. 😉😂

Just two more left for me the Ozeki and Klara! #ToBshortlist

Cinfhen Wow!!! Great progress 🥰I haven‘t read Copeland yet but I definitely don‘t think Friends should be there and I‘d be ok with the Erdrich, too. 2y
Suet624 You‘re amazing. 2y
Ruthiella I lost my hold on Our Friends and Neighbors 😭 so have to wait for it again. Hoping to get my hands on the Erdrich soon and like @Cinfhen , I think that‘ll be my pick for the play in round. 2y
BarbaraBB Such great progress. I haven‘t read one of them yet. I am hoping to get to the Erdrich too soon. 2y
Megabooks @Cinfhen @Suet624 @Ruthiella @BarbaraBB thank you all! My goal is to finish them all in 2021, but I‘m waiting for Klara at the library. I‘m 75 pages into the Ozeki and surprised to be enjoying it. The Sentence didn‘t get my full vote because it lost me a bit in the middle whereas I was engaged with Cane all the way through. Both are definitely picks, though. Interested to see what all of you think as you move through the list (and the judges)! 2y

Back when this whole thing started, Seanan McGuire wrote a few Twitter threads about pandemics b/c more than anything else, that‘s what‘s at the heart of the NEWSFLESH series (despite it being perceived as zombie fiction.) I first read this series in 2013 & have reread it at least half a dozen times since.

After 7yrs of reading on my kindle, I finally ordered hard copies of the trilogy.
