Repost for @Jess861

Helen Knott does not have as many books as some of the other Canadian authors we have explored but she does have these two memoirs. Either memoir will be a good but hard read. Please let me know which book you would prefer to read for the July/August read of #OhCanada.

Anyone welcome to join in this easygoing book club where we explore different Canadian authors every two months.

Ruthiella I like the idea of mixing in memoir! I vote for (edited) 1w
PurpleyPumpkin Oof these both sound like heavy but important reads. Hard to choose just one! So, I‘ll go with her first book. But I‘m happy to read either. 1w

JenlovesJT47 I read Becoming A Matriarch and I loved it. It‘s a quick read. I downloaded the other one but haven‘t read it yet. Either is a good choice! 1w
kwmg40 Becoming a Matriarch is currently on my TBR list, so I‘ll vote for that one. 1w
JenlovesJT47 We read Becoming A Matriarch for #shesaid and everyone had a hard time finding a copy that wasn‘t super expensive. I do know a place where you can download them for free if you feel comfortable doing that. 1w
CarolynM I‘m behind with my #OhCanada reading, but I hope to join you for this one, whichever you choose 🙂 1w
JuniperWilde Let me know which one you chose. 7d
Jess861 @Ruthiella @PurpleyPumpkin @kwmg40 - thanks for your votes - noted 😊 4d
Jess861 @JenlovesJT47 - good to know - they are so easily available where I live in Canada. I didn't realize they were a bit harder to find in other countries. 4d
Jess861 @CarolynM - sounds good! 4d
Jess861 @JuniperWilde - Will do - I'll have another post with the book that is voted for. Going to give it a few more days in case people want to vote and weren't on during the week. 4d

It is Election Day here in Canada, and I've been oscillating wildly between cautiously optimistic and absolute bundle of nerves weighed down by the boulder of dread in my stomach. I may or may not sleep tonight. Wish us luck!

DogMomIrene As a PR I‘m so elated with the results. Canadians did not disappoint ❤️🇨🇦🍁 2mo
TheKidUpstairs @BarbaraBB @DogMomIrene 🎉 I'm so relieved. And I'm glad they were able to call it early so I could actually get a good night's sleep! 2mo
TheKidUpstairs @Cortg @TheBookHippie @Kerrbearlib @Ruthiella thank you all for your good wishes and crossed fingers! While we didn't get the Liberal majority I would have liked to see, I'm still relieved by the results. It looks like lots of strategic voting took place to keep the politics of division and distrust from winning. 2mo
TheBookHippie @TheKidUpstairs I was watching into the night!!! I agree. Relieved. 2mo

I thought we could explore Genevieve Graham as an author for the next #OhCanada read. She has written a number of books with many of them being Canadian historical fiction set around war times. She also has a new book coming out in April 2025. Please vote if you'd like. All are welcome to join this low key read.

I thought we could explore Genevieve Graham as an author for the next #OhCanada read. She has written a number of books with many of them being Canadian historical fiction set around war times. She went to school to be a musician and only started writing books at the age of 40! She also has a new book coming out in April 2025. Please vote if you'd like to and if it is a tie I will flip a coin. All are welcome to join this low key read.

Ruthiella Like Mary Lawson, another Canadian writer who started publishing in middle age. I‘m fine with either title! 2mo

Jess861 @Kitta Thanks! Noted. 2mo
Jess861 @Ruthiella @kwmg40 @bookaholic1 @CarolynM Thanks for the feedback 😁 2mo
Blueberry The Forgotten Home Child is my first choice but Bluebird also looks good. 2mo
PurpleyPumpkin I‘m happy to read either title. They both sound good! 2mo
lauraisntwilder I think they both look good, but I'm leaning towards Bluebird. 2mo

Just wanted to put this out to those who are participating (or thinking of) - is there a particular genre you'd like to read next and if you like voting on the next pick or would rather I just pick one book? I'm happy to go any way - want to pick books that people are interested in reading! I was thinking another historical fiction for the next read and then maybe something lighter in the summer. Always love hearing from you all 😊!

kwmg40 I don‘t have any particular preferences and will be happy with whatever is chosen. Being Canadian myself, I‘ve read a lot of Canadian books but I don‘t mind rereading I book I‘ve enjoyed before if one is selected. 3mo
Jess861 @kwmg40 Awesome - thank you so much for the feedback 😊!! (edited) 3mo
lauraisntwilder I don't know enough about Canadian literature, really, so I'm happy to go along with the group. 3mo
Tamra Following too! 😁 3mo
CarolynM I'm happy to read whatever you choose. I joined this group because I want to explore Canadian literature beyond the already internationally known authors, so I've been very happy with your first two choices. 3mo
Ruthiella Like @CarolynM I‘m here for the discovery! If you want to mix it up with genre, it‘d be fine with me. I want to expand my knowledge of CanLit. 3mo
Teresereading I'm interested 3mo
Blueberry I'm open to all but nonfiction. 3mo
Kitta I like having a few to vote on but also happy with whatever you choose! 3mo
Jess861 @Blueberry Awesome, I had no plans for non fiction for this group so that works 🙂 3mo
Jess861 @Kitta Perfect - I'll keep the voting going then. I'll probably post soon for May/June read 3mo
JuniperWilde I‘m open to any genre. Including non-fiction. I have Suzanne by Anais Barbeau-Lavalette on my list. Translated from French. 3mo

While I was searching for Discworld themed knit or crochet projects I came across a cute Great A‘tuin amigurumi pattern. I don‘t know anything about amigurumi yet. I have a beginner project sitting in the frog pond waiting for me to attempt again. So this link https://www.planetjune.com/blog/about/amigurumi-discworld/ is beyond my understanding and looks suitable for someone with better creative skills.

Repost for - @Jess861

I hope everyone who has had a chance to start is enjoying Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese!
For our next read, I thought we could pick from two Lori Lansens books. I feel she is a less known Canadian author. These are two of my favourite books by her. Please feel free to look up each book and vote (if you want) on the one you'd like to read.
