This was a great story of friendship, love, and resistance during the WWII occupation of Jersey, one of the Channel Islands. I enjoyed the stories of this community focused around two best friends, Grace and Bea, as they work against the oppression of Nazi occupation. There were also wonderful historical notes at the end.

I finished listening to this book this afternoon, and it has all the emotions. There‘s so much humor mixed with so much frustration, anger, and sadness for these characters. I thought Backman did an amazing job of weaving together the past and present stories.

I love the idea of a weekend readathon. I hope to finish a few books and make some progress on others. I‘m close to done with Quartet and My Friends, and it‘s almost time for Westfallen to go back to the library. I haven‘t picked up A Tree a Day all month, so I want to remedy that. I‘ll probably listen to some more audio as well.

I enjoyed this book, but as other reviewers have said, I sometimes felt that it had too much going on. I found Covey‘s story incredibly interesting and enjoyed figuring how it all fit together. However, there were so many characters and relationships, that in the end I didn‘t need details for all of them. I think a narrower focus could have been stronger.

Prairiegirl_reading I agree 100%. 2mo
IriDas I enjoyed it. I didn‘t think about how it had so much going on until the very end when it seemed like she just noticed the prof had said no more than 300 pages and she had to wrap it up quickly. :D But, it did seem to try to do a lot in such a short space. 2mo

This month I had hardly any print reading time, so I only finished one ebook and am behind on readalongs. My favorite listen was Wild Dark Shore.

Finished this book for #Litsybookclub. It‘s about how a current day single mother might navigate her new life. My older sister couldn‘t finish it- she couldn‘t relate to it. I maybe related more since my single mom daughter of 5 yo twins lives with us. I also enjoyed Elle Fanning narrating it. Can‘t wait to discuss with Bookclub

Prairiegirl_reading That‘s one of my favourites of the year. 3mo
Daisey This is one of those books that I couldn‘t necessarily relate to well, but it gave me a lot to think about. I enjoyed it and think it will be interesting to discuss. 3mo
Lesliereadsalot I liked this one. Not great literature or anything, but it kept my interest. 3mo

When I first heard about this book, it did not sound like one I would pick up, but it also received many positive reviews so I was intrigued. I‘m glad I gave it a listen. Margo doesn‘t always make great choices, but she works to do the best that she can and grows through her experiences. I especially appreciated the relationship she built with her father.

Daisey I also found the changing point of view in this book interesting. 4mo

I thoroughly enjoyed this story of a glassmaking family through time. The way in which it skips through time while focusing on the same family is a fascinating storytelling technique, and it includes so many interesting details about glassmaking in Murano and the history of Venice.
