Took a recent trip to Lancaster, PA for a quiet anniversary weekend that included a visit to Pocket Books Shop and Dog Star Books. Tea, McCullers, and Pavic will all be first-time reads for me. I never heard of Dictionary of the Khazars before, but apparently, it was a bestseller in 1983. Weirdly, there is a 'male' and 'female' version that are the same except for 17 lines? Could be a weird gag, but sounded interesting otherwise.

Karisa Happy Anniversary! 📚💗 2mo
LeahBergen I do love a good shelfie pic. Happy Anniversary! 2mo
BarbaraBB Happy anniversary! I read the Khazar book (male edition). It is quite weird! 2mo

sarahbarnes I hope you like the Tokarczuk! I‘ve had a copy of Heart for ages and have never read it. 2mo
sarahbarnes I see your copy of Black Cathedral there - have you read it? I‘ve been curious about it. 2mo
Billypar @BarbaraBB Thank you! And mine is also a boy, lol. Part of me wants to look up what the line difference is, but not sure if it's a spoiler or just won't make sense out of context. 2mo
Billypar @sarahbarnes I loved Drive Your Plow but totally missed Empusium's translation coming out - I'm looking forward to it! I haven't read Black Cathedral yet - that shelf in the background is my TBR shelf. It was one I hadn't heard of before I found it in the bookstore, but seems to be squarely in my wheelhouse. 2mo

Pickpick

A young lesbian is cast out of her home when she is outed at college. Throughout this book we see this charismatic woman figure out how to make it on her own as she navigates financial and interpersonal challenges. I wouldn't say I enjoy classic literature, but ever now and then I do strive to read it. #LGBTQIA #ClassicLit

Kenyazero Used for #LGBTQIA2025 a sapphic book; and this was one of my recent #Roll100 picks @puddlejumper 3mo

Written in 1928 but this "lesbian classic" (as my cover calls it) could easily have been written this year. The language is easy and the prejudices of that day still linger, even as strides are made. I felt for Stephen throughout the book, she is drawn as a vivid and complex character, even when she is doing unwise things I found myself rooting for her (maybe for her to get a grip, but still, rooting).

Graywacke Looks like heaven. The books sounds terrific 6mo

Sunday. Taking a beat before meeting up with friends to watch Materialists and then eat our body weight in sushi.

Today is a dark day for the country, trying to not spiral.

dabbe I hope you had a lovely time. 💙🩵💙 6mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @dabbe I was at a table by the most judgemental group of millennials!! My goodness the things they found to bitch about. Made me very aware of how I don't want to sound so negative to strangers! 😂 6mo
dabbe @ChaoticMissAdventures Matt and I are amazed sometimes by how loud people can be at restaurants, too. What happened to talking in a normal tone of voice? But in your case, it is a good reminder of how one wants to be seen (ahem, HEARD) in public. 😂 6mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @dabbe listening to people in cafes and restaurants is one of my top favorite things to do. I find people fascinating and I want to know all their business. Though at times like this I want to go up to them and say something. This time I would have said damn y'all do not know how negative you are and I know why you sir are divorced! (He was calling his ex step kid dumb for liking social media, at 15!) 6mo
dabbe @ChaoticMissAdventures Think of the books we could write! We could call is something like CAFE CONVERSATIONS! 🤣 The low-road side of me wishes you had said something, but then Michelle Obama's high-road speech whispers in my ear. Damn! 6mo

This is so, so good and the library copy was due back with a couple of people waiting so I caved and just bought a copy, very lucky to have found a used one at my local store!

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian The context of the censorship and trials this book faced are so interesting too! 6mo
Rissreadswithcats I cannot believe I have not heard of this book! It‘s got me interested! Stacked! 6mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @Rissreadswithcats it is so good! And as @CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian says the whole story behind the book, censorship completely in the UK was so interesting, I would have read it just because of that! 6mo

"You're neither unnatural, nor abominable, nor mad; you're as much a part of what people call nature as anyone else; only you're unexplained as yet--you've not got your niche in creation. But some day that will come, and meanwhile don't shrink from yourself, but face yourself calmly and bravely. Have courage; do the best you can with your burden. But above all be honourable."

#weeklyforecast

Serious consideration going on here by Serene.

Main focus is on the lesbian classic Well of Loneliness, my monthly chunky read.
Then: The Pairing, A Single Man, and my car/bedside Kobo read is the ARC Maggie: or, A Man And A Woman Walk Into A Bar

sarahbarnes Well of Loneliness broke my heart when I read it. 💔 6mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @sarahbarnes I am about 50 pages in and loving the writing so far. Excited to get past her childhood. 6mo
