Today‘s kitty tether time is all about poetry with that WOW factor. QUESTIONS I ASKED MY MOTHER is a powerful entry in the prairie Mennonite literary canon. Brandt‘s questions aren‘t just for her mother; they‘re for the whole world, with an emphasis on how people perform their faith and how femininity manifests within her childhood community.

Mehso-so

Not my cup of tea. I‘m normally into a family saga but the time jumps in this weren‘t always obvious until far into a new time frame and it was sometimes confusing. I won‘t be bothering with the next in the series.

The #boutofbooks gods are smiling down on me - I was in an all-day workshop today, travelling into the big city with a colleague, not expecting to get home until close to 7. But we finished an hour early and my colleague had another meeting so I not only get an unexpected hour of reading on the train but an extra hour tonight!! Plus tomorrow‘s session was cancelled so I get my four hours of travel time tomorrow back, too!!!

Amanda23 Awesome shoes! Love the colour! 7y
janeycanuck @Amanda23 one of my fav pairs! Surprisingly comfortable, too. 7y
kspenmoll Wonderful! Happy for you! 7y

A deeply personal novel with a heart-rending #LoveMeDo story. One of my favourites.
#HeyJune

tournevis MacLennan. So sad he's largely forgotten, aside for the phrase "two solitudes". Damn. 7y
rabbitprincess @tournevis True story: the New Canadian Library didn't reprint his novel "The Precipice" until AFTER I had gone all the way to Victoria to buy a used copy ? Annoying! They should reprint his essays, too. I actually like them better than his Anglo/Franco novels. 7y
tournevis @rabbitprincess I agree, actually. I've used them in class. 7y
Lcsmcat Sounds interesting - stacked! 7y
rabbitprincess @tournevis My favourite one at the moment is the one where he tells how his dad accidentally blew up their house 😬 @Lcsmcat Hope you like it! 7y

The characters in this book about a small town in Saskatchewan seem like people you've met or would like to. The vignettes roll slowly into each other quietly and perfectly.

Babs_book_obsession I have heard it is a good audiobook. In Canada the book is called Cool Water. 8y

Many of the chapters of this novel read so much like self contained short stories, that I thought it was indeed an interconnected collection until I went back and read the summary again. It's all character & place exploration of a small community in Saskatchewan, not much plot to speak of, and contains some beautiful writing. It is right in my wheelhouse. I'll be checking out more!
