Faery Lands Forlorn | Dave Duncan

(Book 2 of ‘A Man of His Word‘ series)

I‘m re-reading this series after a few decades and finding it a bit grittier than I remembered. I think I was seduced into buying the series by the covers on the Del Rey 90‘s editions by Don Maitz

“Their circle drew tighter as they ran. Their reeling strength snatched at his fear, pulled him around with them as if he were trying to face them all at once. His heart labored painfully. He could not turn #fast enough to keep up with them. The effort made him stumble, lose his balance, fall to his knees.” #QuotsyNov19

#GratefulReads

#ThoughtYouWouldntLikeButDid - Going into the Wheel of Time series, almost anyone who read it agrees on something... things really slow down in the middle books. Since Book 7 is where the “slog” is supposed to begin, I expected to be bored. But with some events from earlier books moving forward, the introduction of a badass character (that would be Cadsuane) and Rand FINALLY doing more than just moping, I really enjoyed this one!

TheSpineView I could never finish this series. Maybe at some point I'll get back to it. 4d
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I love this pic!! Too cute!! 📚🤗 4d

DaveGreen7777 @TheSpineView My buddy read of the series with @Branwen got stalled at book 8, but we do plan to go back to it someday! 😁 4d

ljuliel I think if they ever make online commercials for Litsy, you should be hired to do the commercial ! Do you have a YouTube channel ? If you don‘t, you need one. 😁 4d
Meaw_catlady Great book selfie !!! 😻 4d
DaveGreen7777 @ljuliel Thank you, you‘re very kind! I don‘t have a YouTube channel yet... maybe someday! 😁 4d

JessClark78 I really need to read this series all the way through. I stopped at book 7 because 8 hadn‘t been published yet and then I never got back to the series. I did recently finish buying the rest of the books I needed so I‘ll probably do that soon. 🙂 4d
DaveGreen7777 @JessClark78 Hope you‘re able to get back into the series again soon! 😀 4d
Deifio I'm still amazed that Sanderson could wrap up the whole series so well. I mean there were soooo many characters and quests and sidequests! 4d
DaveGreen7777 @Deifio I haven‘t gotten to the Sanderson books yet, but I heard he did a brilliant job wrapping it all up! 😀 4d

“...he found his old straight razor. Its long, stainless steel #blade gleamed like a leer in the fluorescent light...but he stropped it deliberately, lathered his face, braced his timorous bones against the sink, and set the edge to his throat. It felt like a cold line of fire across his jugular, a keen threat of blood and gangrene and reactivated leprosy. If his half-unfingered hand slipped or twitched, the consequences might be extreme.”

A really enjoyable follow up to A Blade So Black. There are three narrators for the audio for this one and while the narration was great, one narrator was using a far more Southern tone for the American characters. Amusing but not distracting from the story.

I'm onto book 5 now of my #WoT re-read.

Its slow going as I'm doing the audio books on my walk to and from work so that's only an hour total (there and back) each day.

Still really enjoying it though. 👌

Branwen I'm thinking of starting a reread of this series after the holidays! I miss Rand and the gang! 😀 6d
Sweetkokoro My goal is to read this series for the first time ever in the new year, I won‘t have time for the remainder of this year. 6d

#wondrouswednesday @Eggs

1. Yes! Redamancy. It means "a love returned in full"

2. Depends on the series. If the writer can keep the story going in an imaginative and unique way, I'll still be reading when book 697 releases ? My favorite series is Shannara by Terry Brooks

3. Yep! I write Christian fantasy and part one of my first book releases Dec 12th!

4. Happy Wondrous Wednesday!
