Dinner at Eight: A Play in Three Acts | Edna Ferber, George Simon Kaufman

You‘re lucky to have #dinnerateight when the war has caused a shortage of domestic servants and your thus forced to keep the house entirely on your own. Such is the plight of our protagonist Rose, who is determined to maintain her own home as her part in the war effort. This book is a perfect combination of humor and levity. #timbittunes

LeahBergen I need this one! (Oh, look... already stacked 😉). 10mo
Reviewsbylola 😆😆😆 Happens to the best of us. I actually bought a Persephone I already had when I went to the shop. It‘s difficult to keep them straight. @LeahBergen 10mo
Cinfhen Sounds like an entertaining read 10mo
emilyhaldi I can't wait to buy 10 more of these next week 😁 10mo

Wouldn‘t #dinnerateight at The Library Hotel in NYC be a glorious place for a Litsy meetup? I would have to save up for a while but I think it could be worth it! #timbittunes

TheKidUpstairs That would be perfection! 10mo
squirrelbrain Sign me up! ❤️ 10mo
Cinfhen Awesome idea!!!! I think @MicheleinPhilly might have stayed there ?!?! Did I imagine that??? 10mo

#TimbitTunes Day 20: We had Chinese New Year (CNY) #DinnerAtEight this evening as celebrations continue on til this week. Since I serve as Faculty in Residence, I had a Lo Hei Dinner with Hall residents and Hall Council Officers last week, and this week another Lo Hei with the residential mentors and steamboat dinner. People treat CNY very very seriously here in Singapore.

Cathythoughts Looks delish 10mo
Cinfhen Lots of celebrating!!! How fun 10mo

A Moveable Feast | Ernest Hemingway

"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans."

#DinneratEight #TimbitTunes @Cinfhen

Cathythoughts Brilliant quote 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I‘ve yet to brave enough to taste an oyster 🙄 10mo
TrishB @Cathythoughts my stomach turns at the thought! 10mo
Bookwomble Although I wouldn't eat an oyster, Hemingway's descriptive language is engaging. 10mo

Judybskt Love oysters! Eat them raw! Or broiled in the shell with horseradish and sharp cheddar - angels on horseback. 10mo
TheKidUpstairs @Cathythoughts @Bookwomble @TrishB my stomach is extremely sensitive at the moment, just searching for an image to go with the quote made it do flip flops. But the quote is so beautifully written I couldn't pass it up! 10mo
TheKidUpstairs @Judybskt not for me! But my husband loves 'em, so I've visited a number of oyster bars in my time with him! 10mo
LiterRohde ALMOST made me want to try oysters. Then I remembered he was talking about oysters. They look like the boogers of the sea. Plus, with multiple bad experiences with seafood, it is difficult for me to choke down any kind. 10mo
Cinfhen Hahahahaha @LiterRohde love your word choice!!! 10mo
Cinfhen I haven‘t ever had ANY sea food or shell fish ~ I can‘t😖 10mo
CarolynM @Cathythoughts When you do work up the courage make sure you have a glass of champagne to hand - natural oysters and champagne are a magical combination! (edited) 10mo

“A census taker tried to quantify me once. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a big Amarone.”

#TimbitTunes | 20: #DinnerAtEight

TheKidUpstairs Great pick. Even though I know the book came first, my brain still reads Amarone as wrong, I expect a nice Chianti! 10mo
LiterRohde @TheKidUpstairs Yup. Chianti is definitely more catchy. That‘s probably why the movie changed it. But Amarone makes more sense with liver. I like that Harris did his homework. 10mo
