Thrilled to meet more Dark Shadows fans during the #DSbuddyread. Our discussions really enhanced this haunting story. Loved delving into Victoria Winter's past & her deeper connection to the Collins family. Plus Lara's alter ego Angelique was bound to show up & wreak more havoc for Barnabas.

I've been busy with real life, so I think we're a week behind on our discussion. Hope no one minds. #DSBuddyRead #darkshadows

After Stephon's visit, Vicki has a horrendous hangover and sees ghosts (pretty normal for Collinwood—the ghosts and the drinking ?). And the opossums are back. Maybe Mrs. Johnson too.

Don't you think it's fun to "borrow" Joan Bennett's film career for Liz's past? She was so glamorous. ⬇️⬇️

rubyslippersreads Vicki meets up with Maggie again, and just like in the first episode (I just rewatched it), has a roast beef sandwich. Maggie warns her about Stephon, the way she warned her about Collinwood. (At least she doesn't call Vicki a jerk this time. 😄)

Barnabas finally appears! But there are a lot of mixed emotions on both sides, and he makes an unusual request. ⬇️⬇️ 6y

rubyslippersreads Vicki visits the gypsy camp, makes a interesting discovery involving Magda the gypsy, and has a "date" with Stephon. If Barnabas is her potential Mr. Rochester, Stephon is a very scary St. John. ? 6y

UwannaPublishme I was really surprised about Maggie's attitude toward Vicki when they saw each other after all those years. I always thought Maggie was sugary sweet. 😁 Everyone seems to be out of character from their original roles. Except Barnabas. He always knows how to steal the scene. 😍🙌🏻 6y

Laura317 Ha! I finished the book already. No spoilers here. I was confused with the possums appearing/disappearing again. Stephon certainly acted odd on their “date”. I still want to shake some sense into Vickie. Barnabas is great, though. 6y

rubyslippersreads @UwannaPublishme Maggie's character here is more like it was at the beginning of the show , not as it evolved throughout the series, which I found kind of disappointing. But you and @Laura317 are right—Barnabas is great. 🦇❤️ 6y

It's nice to revisit the Blue Whale. Tho Vicki considering picking up a boy toy seems a bit out of character. ?

The flashbacks to Vicki's orphanage days are interesting, but harrowing. And we meet an old "friend," Charity Trask. She would have fit right in at Lowood School.

Vicki also encounters Willie Loomis. Anyone else disappointed that, although Vicki thinks of him rather wistfully, Barnabas still hasn't made an appearance?

UwannaPublishme I agree. I can't imagine prim and proper Vicki being so flirty and man hungry. Very unlike the Vicki from the original show. I don't remember Mrs. Trask, but she's just as nasty as the Reverend Trask. 6y

UwannaPublishme And I guess Lara likes to tease us so we'll keep anticipating the arrival of Barnabas. Is anyone else a John Karlen fan? I loved him on DS and Cagney & Lacey. Good old Harv! 6y

Mollyanna Again playing catch up... I too thought it a little odd that Vicki considered using Nick as a boy toy. I‘m also a little piqued that every man that comes across Vicki instantly falls in love with her. 6y

Mollyanna Does anyone else think Vogelsang might be a Nazi? Life force experiments started in Germany in the 1940s? Historically we know that the Nazis were big into the occult and medical experiments. 6y

Ch 1-6 discussion. 😊🦇

We open in 1797. I always knew Peter Bradford would be a boring husband. 😄 No wonder Vicki has regrets about what might have been with Barnabas. And time travel isn't all it's cracked up to be. No modern conveniences, even by 1970s standards.

In the present, Vicki returns to an empty Collinwood. Where is the Collins family? And where did the opossums come from? 😱

AmyG Remember there was a room that if you entered, you went into another time? I wondered if the Collins family was escaping something/someone and are in another time. Or...vampires. As for the opposums...no idea. 6y

rubyslippersreads @AmyG I vaguely remember a plot line in the series (maybe parallel time) where Barnabas and Julia found Collinwood empty. But I can't remember what happened after that. 6y
