This is a great picture book to teach children the importance of the “issues of personal identity, conformity, and the value of friendship”. There are also many extension activities you could do in the classroom with this book.

Picture book. Published 2000. This was one of my favorite books to read growing up!! It tells the story about a chameleon who doesn‘t look like the others and hides away. He finally finds someone else who changes the way he does and they travel on through life together. This is an amazing picture book and I need it for my classroom!

This story is about a chameleon who likes to swing from the trees. A leopard and an alligator torment him everyday so he chameleon decides to play a trick on them! He changes his color to hide from them when he hears them coming, and they never see him!

This TL picture book by Leo Lionni would be perfect for S (and I intend to do so!). This book tells the story of a chameleon that is bothered by the fact that he does not have his own color. The end of the story has moralistic value so I would consider it a fable. I would use ESOL strategy 17 Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, etc while storytelling with props.
