This is a great picture book to teach children the importance of the “issues of personal identity, conformity, and the value of friendship”. There are also many extension activities you could do in the classroom with this book.

Picture book. Published 2000. This was one of my favorite books to read growing up!! It tells the story about a chameleon who doesn‘t look like the others and hides away. He finally finds someone else who changes the way he does and they travel on through life together. This is an amazing picture book and I need it for my classroom!

This TL picture book by Leo Lionni would be perfect for S (and I intend to do so!). This book tells the story of a chameleon that is bothered by the fact that he does not have his own color. The end of the story has moralistic value so I would consider it a fable. I would use ESOL strategy 17 Provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, etc while storytelling with props.

deiacovab UDL 1.1 offer ways of customizing the display of information would also fit into storytelling. This is the website I found that I'm going to use for storytelling with this book http://www.linesacross.com/2011/08/chameleon-pipe-cleaner-animal-color-of.html/ #ucflae3414sp20 4y
DrSpalding You did a beautiful job storytelling this book. I have bookmarked this website and plan to make my own pipe cleaner chameleons! I already ordered the pipe cleaners. 4y
deiacovab @DrSpalding thank you so much! They were fun to make I hope you enjoy making them as well! 4y

I would use this in my classroom because of the colors of the book and because the students would be engaged with the cameleons.

This book is about a chameleon that is trying to find his color. The pictures are very colorful and bright and would hold the interest of a child. The content in this book is age-appropriate because it educates young children about the different colors of animals.

A Color of His Own is a colorful book about a chameleon trying to fit in. This book would fall under the picturebook category because the content provides a theme that is developed as the chameleon realizes he is his own color. Also, the format follows accordingly by keeping the size of the book appropriate for the content.

This modern fantasy book, A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni, has yet to have won an award; however, it is a great book to S to your students. There are many different kinds of animals who have a color of their own, except for chameleons. Throughout this book you will get to know the story of a chameleon who just wanted to have one color to call his own🦎

DianaHerrera First and for most, the teacher will introduce the book to the students and they will predict what the story will be about. Next, the teacher will read the book to the students as they observe the blending of the colors with the pictures. 6y
DianaHerrera The teacher will ask questions that pertain to the story and then the students will divide the class into small groups. In their groups they will be given whipped cream that already has food coloring (red, blue, yellow). Students will be mixing two primary colors to make one secondary color. For example, red + yellow = orange; red + blue = purple; blue + yellow = green. 6y

DianaHerrera The teacher will bring the class together to discuss as to how the colors mix and the differences between them. Next the students will illustrate and write about the story in order in their journals. This can be drawn in a flow chart, like a comic strip, etc. They get to choose as long as they draw illustrations with their writing. 6y
DianaHerrera UDL 3.3 goes great with this book because students will use the information process with visualizations. It is also important to read the story slow and redundant for early learning students (ESOL strategy number 14). #UCFLAE3414SuB18 (edited) 6y

DrSpalding Of course this makes a wonderful storytelling! You did a lovely job. How fun to use whipped cream and food coloring… Try this with kindergarten or first grade students as a fun Friday project. 6y

Leniverse I love that book! "The chameleon was black in the long winter night." ?I still insist on reading it every now and then with my now almost 7 year old. ? But when we read it now we do the colours in multiple languages, to keep it challenging. (edited) 7y

One of my favourites. Best line: "The chameleon was black in the long winter night." He is sad because he keeps changing and has no colour of his own. But then he meets another chameleon, and they are green together, and yellow, and red with white polka dots. ❤️ My 6 y/o and I still read this sometimes. Then we name all the colours in every language we know. #PicturebookLove #17booklove
