I‘m not a big fan of fairytale retellings and tend to avoid them but I‘m so happy I gave this book a chance. What a refreshing and imaginative take on the classic Cinderella story. Strong likeable characters and wonderful storyline possibilities. Automatically borrowed book 2 from Libby as soon as I finished this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #booked2019 #booked2019winter #fairytaleretelling

Introvert boy moves to boarding school, meets some eccentric characters, beautiful mysterious girl, does a lot of smoking and drinking, pulls some pranks and suffers a terrible tragedy. Could have been better, should have been better. This was a really good classic mystery story with compelling writing. It‘s fun to read any decent genre novel, but discovering an unknown standout is always special.

Once I got into this I really didn‘t want to put it down (though eventually sleep got the better of me). It took a while for me to see how all the threads wove together, but it‘s been ages since I read proper literary fiction and I really enjoyed the style here.
