I'm in Austin, TX (for a concert that got cancelled last night due to weather 😭) but I got to work from Google's Austin office Thursday/Friday and wanted to share this AWESOME library space. Ya'll, I almost died 😍

TimSpalding @swishandflick Cool. I've been in that office a few times. @LibraryThing and ProQuest supply some book data to Google Play and Books. Cool office—from what I've seen. That Austin room is cool, but I can't help guessing there's some bogosity at work. Someone bought books by the yard and then mixed them up only slightly. (edited) 5y

swishandflick @TimSpalding to an extent on the higher shelves, maybe. But I actually saw some really good books available for folks to borrow! Harry Potter, the Game of Thrones books, and a lot of recent releases. 5y

Some Texan littens recommended me this bookshop and they were NOT wrong! Incredible independent bookshop with so much choice and such helpful staff, I could easily have spent all day in there. Got a mug to take back home for my tea during readathons!

I always have the best time in the United States, I love it here so much. Might not post much this weekend but I‘ll definitely accumulate some books while I‘m here!

Calling any littens in Austin Texas! I‘m visiting at the end of this month April 27-May 1 and if anyone could recommend me bookshops or if anyone would like to meet up I‘d be really up for it!! Also Mexican food recommendations - I‘ve never had PROPER Mexican food and if it‘s as good as I‘ve heard I‘ll be eating lots!

Lauren.Archer Go visit BookPeople...it is the largest independent bookstore in Texas. There are so many Mexican restaurants, you can try Chuy‘s or Trudy‘s and ask for the Mexican martini. If you are looking for something more, just hit me up. 5y

Soubhiville April 27 is the Austin Bookstore Crawl! Check out their FB page for all the info! Def go to book people, also if you aren‘t near one, we have 5 or 6 Half Price Books stores, that‘s always fun and affordable browsing. And our big Library booksale store, Recycled Reads is a great bargain hunting spot. I would very highly recommend Torchy‘s Tacos- it‘s not authentic Mexican but it‘s authentic Austin! 5y

SW-T How awesome! Book People a must for independent stores, but there‘s also BookWoman and HalfPrice Books. As for Mexican food, you‘ve got options. TexMex, interior, etc. Also, just for the view, try to squeeze in Mount Bonnell. Do you have an itinerary? Happy to answer any questions you might have. (edited) 5y

SW-T Awesome! My top 3 picks for bookstores would be BookPeople, HalfPriceBooks, and BookWoman. Manuel‘s has great Mexican food, mid-range pricing. http://manuels.com/ LaFonda is good but expensive. Azul Tequila and Casa Chapala have good food, and El Mercado is good for TexMex. Matt‘s El Rancho is a popular local spot. Not sure what area you‘ll be in but you‘ll have tons of options 😊😊😊 5y

SW-T Last comment (promise!) but if you have time & transportation check out Georgetown Public Library. They have art, coffee shop, and a bookstore that‘s pay what you feel like. So you could buy ten books for $3 or 5 books for $10, depending on your cash flow. The square is also very walkable and there‘s coffee, wineries, boutiques & tons of hospitality. I tore myself away from my book and wine at the hotel to visit the Austin Central Library and it was AWESOME. My husband actually suggested it, surprisingly, and I remembered @Soubhiville recommended it! What a fantastic place!

Eyelit Safe in my part of the city (tho one of the bombs was close to my workplace and they‘ve stopped taking inkind donations for the time being). It is worrisome and I hope they catch the culprit(s) soon! Everyone take care 💜 6y
