Throwback to Monday, when I devoured ROUGH PAGES in just a couple sittings. Rosen delivers not only a tense mystery but also a deep look at how books foster community—and what those who support book bans seek to steal from society. Loved it.

This series just keeps getting better. Andy Mills is an amazing character and I was so stressed as he navigated solving this case. The theme of banning books and punishing people for reading diversely is sadly still so relevant. I can‘t recommend this series enough and there is fourth book coming this fall❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is the 3rd book in Rosen‘s Evander Mills series. I highly recommend these on audio as Vikas Adam‘s narration is spot on for the 1950 noir vibes. This one feels timely with book banning and government censorship. I continue to love the recurring characters in this series, along with Andy.
Finished February 9, 2025.

February #wrapup
9 read + 1 DNF:
1 short story
1 graphic novel
3 audiobooks
3 children‘s book
1 non-fiction
My pick for February is Rough Pages. It‘s the third book in the Evander Mills series, which I continue to enjoy.
Someday I‘m going to finish those carry over books. 🙂

Not as successful as the second book in this series (still waiting on the first one from interlibrary loan) but a good read nonetheless. Really enjoy these characters and the concept of the series.

Rosen does a swell job evoking classic 1950s film noir vibes while filling the story with a diverse queer cast and a complicated gay ex-cop P.I. reckoning with the implications of his past career. The themes -- book banning, government censorship, the utter importance of queer people seeing themselves reflected in books -- are beautifully evoked. Highly recommended as a puzzling mystery and a richly imagined 1950s San Francisco historical fiction.

Very twisty. I love this series & Vikas Adam‘s audio narration is so perfect for the 1950s film noir vibe. This ties in to the importance of storytelling & atrocious book bans. & as always I love Andy adapting to & growing his life.
