panIf I had known this book was mainly focused on just grief, I would have gone into with a different mindset. Instead, I went in thinking it was a thriller/horror and was majorly disappointed. Also, the wife dies, and sister/best friend takes her place, which gives me major ick. 1/5
so-soI was so looking forward to this book for its creep factor and interesting storyline but in the end it just left me with too many questions. It was well written but somewhat long winded in parts. Things were mentioned in the story that never developed or were touched on again. It was all just a strange story with even stranger characters. I still don‘t know what was real and what was not. Dazed and confused by this one 😵💫

pickWhat a chilling debut novel! The book opens nine months after the death of Pippa, told by the grieving father of her twin children and her own twin sister, Julia. Alfie and his daughters live in the home where Pippa and Julia grew up. A new imaginary friend starts Julia‘s memories spinning while the dark history of the house plays a role as well as the religion once practiced within its walls. Spooky and hard to put down! I really enjoyed this!

Dual narration makes for easy listening no matter if you‘re in Julia‘s head listening to her think about growing up in the house OR Alfie a sudden widower unsure of his twins‘ sanity.
A bit Imaginary Friend & The Amityville Horror. Not as long as IF but a few similarities & not as scary as TAH but enough to kick off Spooktober!

pickCreepy, gothic vibes in this one about young twin daughters who have an imaginary friend, Black Mamba (yes, a snake)! Their mom had a tragic accident and now they live with dad and often Aunt Julia comes to help as she‘s a psychoanalyst. Lots to unpack here but I couldn‘t stop reading as it‘s spine-chilling and crazy-good!

pickA creepy dysfunctional family dynamic, between the 2 sets of twins, the odd religious background of the grandma, and the imaginary friend/possible demon haunting the children. I enjoyed reading this. I wished for a little more closure in the last chapter, but the reader is able to draw their own conclusions. Is this a horror book? It has some elements of a haunted house and a demonic possession, yet it is also a family drama about grief and loss.
