The Trap
The Trap | Catherine Ryan Howard
'You'd think they'd do something about the taxi shortage,' he says. 'Especially with the missing women.' Stranded on a dark road in the middle of the night, a young woman accepts a lift from a passing stranger. It's the nightmare scenario that every girl is warned about, and she knows the dangers all too well - but what other choice does she have? As they drive, she alternates between fear and relief - one moment thinking he is just a good man doing a good thing, the next convinced he's a monster. But when he delivers her safely to her destination, she realizes her fears were unfounded. And her heart sinks. Because a monster is what she's looking for. She'll try again tomorrow night. But will the man who took her sister take the bait? - Inspired by a series of still-unsolved disappearances, The Trap is the startlingly original new thriller from internationally bestselling author Catherine Ryan Howard.

I was so excited that I found one of my favorite author, Catherine Ryan Hyde, books on Libby. After reading half and enjoying it but wondering why she had changed genres from 'found family' to 'thriller'. And why does the summary say she is Irish? I googled her and realized I was actually reading Catherine Ryan Howard. Lol. I will be reading more of her books.

This is the sort of crime books I like. Decent writing and characters and not stupidly far fetched. I really enjoyed this. So much so that I will look out for more of Howard‘s books. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rissreadswithcats @LeahBergen it was actually a review or rating that you posted that prompted me to give this a go. Either here or Goodreads, or both. So thanks! 🙏🏻 4mo
LeahBergen Oh, I‘m glad! It was my sort of thriller, too … not too farfetched. 😆 The first novel of hers that I read and really enjoyed was 4mo

I've become a fan of this author this past year, and she is a go-to when I want a thriller read.

This is only my third read by her, but I've enjoyed them all. She has a knack for putting the reader in the action right from the start. In this one, I was surprised by the twist at the end because I was expecting things to go in a different direction.

diovival Always fun when the twist lands 2y

A fast-paced, suspenseful listen. I liked The Nothing Man (the only other Howard I‘ve read) a bit more, but this had some good twists and had me hooked from the get-go.

This book hooked me from the start. What happened to all the women who have gone missing. This mystery is set in Ireland and the audio is fantastic!

CRH‘s latest is a good one! There‘s an element in here that reminded me of The Nowhere Man in a good way, and the book thoroughly had my attention all the way through. I made an assumption early on that was totally wrong and I love that she gets me to do that! Excellent read.

LeahBergen Stacked! I liked The Nowhere Man. 👍 2y

Im conflicted I enjoyed the serial killer passages but couldn‘t empathise with Lucy I found her silly and + was frustrated by her antics Gardai Angela + Denise had a great dynamic The twist came far too late + in my opinion ridiculous and v unsatisfactory No real investigation and the ending blah 😒 I felt it took advantage of the real tragedy of all the unsolved cases of disappeared women from 80s and 90s Ireland Can‘t recommend. Disappointed

Cathythoughts Great review Sinead 👍🏻. I won‘t be getting it. 2y

Night-time me also makes a lot of ambitious plan for day-time me, as if I‘m going to wake up a completely different person.

A string of women, including Lucy‘s sister, Nicki, have disappeared. The Garda are stumped. Lucy decides to take things into her own hands by turning herself into bait. The twist did not quite work for me, but this was still solid. Thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
