Let's break up. 💔 I know this may come as a shock, after all, I've loved your writing since high school. But. Over the last few years your writing has changed, and I no longer feel the same sense of joy when reading your books - instead I'm now uncomfortable and feel a sense of dread when reading. This book, which was so glaringly pro-gun, was the final straw. I just can't keep doing this to myself. It's not me, it's you.
so-soSo this one was…odd. I enjoyed the unique storyline and trying to figure out how the main character could survive but beyond that it was kind of meh. The way the author writes the internal monologue and dialog of the characters made them feel very disconnected and cold (which might have been the point) and I didn‘t really understand how the main characters‘ backstory really mattered to the rest of the story. Perfect definition of “so-so”. 🌟🌟🌟

I haven't read a Koontz book in ages, and though Intensity will remain my favorite of his novels, this one is a solid pick. I will admit the first half of the novel is better, with the end dragging on a bit.
pickSolid Koontz. First I‘ve read in awhile but the style and voice are very much the same as they always were. I appreciated the strong female characters in this one, and nice to see a fox instead of his normal dog as the grounding force. Plenty of suspense leading up to the monsters and a nice relaxing end after all the action. An easy and suspenseful read.
"Google Maps," Katie exaggerates, though mavbe not excessively, "are for the timid who need to see the world simplified in order to understand it. These maps are for those big, bold, pioneering souls who love complexity - explorers, adventurers, lovers of byways and alternate routes!"
pick“Always keep moving… The Fates are master sharpshooters, and the easy target is the one who‘s standing still.” This book took a bit to get into but it was worth it. I‘ve always been a fan of Dean Koontz. Micheal J 🦊 was really the best partner you could ask for.
She does not believe that any political ideology can shape society into a utopia. She knows that, instead, even the most earnest utopians always and everywhere create horrific dystopias.
She isn‘t a survivalist, but she intends to survive. She‘s not a prepper, though she makes preparations.
so-soI‘ve never read Koontz before, and now I know why. Not my cup of tea and absolutely strange! A scientific experience gone awry with a hint at apocalyptic ending. Paranormal suspense, sci-fi, and a grief trauma response all rolled into a chilling novel that will leave you sleeping with the lights on and wrapped in a weighted blanket while listening to soothing music. Book #15 in 2023
pan#unpopularopinion This book reminded me of all the reasons I stopped reading Dean Koontz years ago.
A woman on an island finds herself at the center of what could be an apocalyptic event. I disliked Koontz repeatedly discussing AR-15 rifles and how people misunderstand and they aren't really automatic weapons. It felt like an agenda after a while and really got on my nerves.
Bland characters, mediocre story...just not for me.
