pickThis book was amazing! You have to read it. Ressa is a Philippine American dual citizen, journalist, and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Her story is incredible. She describes her work to preserve the integrity of journalism and democracy in the Philippines, the global south, and the world. What she‘s been through under Duterte and his successor, her fight against Facebook/social media misinformation…it‘s all so relevant. Just take my word and read it.
pickI honestly think more people should read/listen to this. It‘s eye opening how social media is being used to manipulate what we see/hear and how that influences us. It sounds conspiracy theory like but MR has exhaustive research and examples of when and how the public is manipulated using ‘stories‘ and algorithms. I understand why 🇨🇦 gov‘t blocked news being on FB and IG but the stupid shit is still getting through so it‘s a half assed attempt

#VolumesAndVocals Day 4: My husband and I definitely got #ShiversEdSheeran when we witnessed just outside our hotel in Sibiu Romania, this World Press Photo exhibition, featuring Duterte‘s war on drugs and truth. Such fearless and unflappable claim of truth being a public good. Unless of course it brings such painful discomfort and makes one complicit in voting for a mass murderer. There will always be a reckoning.
