In the latest in the mystery series hailed as a love letter to reading (Entertainment Weekly) from New York Times bestselling author Ellery Adams, Nora Pennington helps her bookstore customers find healing through the perfect bookwhile solving the towns real-life murders with the help of her Secret, Book, and Scone Society members. Just a touch of magical realism and strong, female-driven stories are winning this series raves from readers and fans of Kate Carlisle and Lorna Barrett. Miracle Springs, North Carolina, is famed for its healing springs. But bookstore owner Nora Pennington has a tendency to land in a different kind of hot water. Though she loves to practice bibliotherapy by finding the perfect books for her customers while listening to their secrets, she also likes to bury her nose in the occasional local crime . . . Nora escaped her past a decade ago. So it feels like a visit from another world when Kelly Walshthe woman her ex-husband left her forwalks through the door of Miracle Books along with her son, a sweet, serious boy with a talent for origami. Kelly hasnt come to gloat, though. As it turns out, shes been dumped too. Shes also terribly ill, and all she wants from Nora is forgiveness. Shockingly, however, this woman whos been the victim of so much misfortune is about to become a murder victim. Who would do such a thing? Certainly not Nora, but that doesnt stop the gossip and suspicionespecially after Kellys brother claims that he saw the two women arguing. In seeking justice for Kelly, The Secret, Book, and Scone Society joins forces with the sheriffs department, but theyve barely begun their probe when life throws another wrench. After serving a twenty-year sentence, Estellas father returns to Miracle Springs. And when his past comes back to haunt him, it might be more than the four friends can handle. Ellery Adams has written over forty mystery novels and cant imagine spending a day away from the keyboard. Ms. Adams, a native New Yorker, has had a lifelong love affair with stories, food, rescue animals, and large bodies of water. When not working on her next novel, she reads, bakes, gardens, spoils her three cats, and rearranges her bookshelves. She lives with her husband and two children (aka the Trolls) in Chapel Hill, NC. Ellery Adams is hit or miss for me except for with this series. I‘ve liked every book in it, including this one. With each book, we learn just a little bit more about each character. For the first time, we meet Nora‘s ex-husband, and he‘s pretty awful. The mystery was interesting but left threads out there that will probably come back to haunt the characters later. #audiowalk

kspenmoll Your photos are gorgeous- they make me hunger for the beach, 10mo
KathyWheeler @kspenmoll Thank you. I‘m glad that we live so close and can go whenever we feel the need. Both my husband and I love the beach. 10mo
BethM I have been stuck at 58% since July because I am absolutely disgusted with the crappy LEO storyline. Does that get better? It‘s enough right now to make me DNF the whole thing. 6mo

KathyWheeler @BethM That part doesn‘t really get better, and I will have to say that I hated it. I didn‘t see any point to it and should probably have mentioned how annoying it was in my review. That said, I liked the rest of the book. 6mo
BethM I wish I could edit those sections out. Just be like of here‘s that chapter- skip. 6mo
KathyWheeler @BethM I agree. 6mo

There was a nice little Pride event going on at the pier across the bay when I went over there to walk today. I wondered why the traffic was a little heavier. I really dislike this new deputy Adams has added; she seems to hate pretty much all women. #audiowalk

The Secret Book and Scone Society is the only Ellery Adams series that I have found to be consistently good. This new one is shaping up to be another good one. The woman that Nora‘s ex-husband left her for shows up in town; she‘s terminally ill and has had a child. When she is killed, Nora is a suspect. #audiowalk

I enjoyed this 6th book in the series which brought trouble to Nora from her past. As usual, the Secret, Book, & Scone Society was on the case. I liked the addition of a neurodivergent boy & continue to love the main characters with all of their flaws. The book quotes that start chapters & the lists of books that bibliotherapist Nora finds for people are always a treat.📚❤️

Read for #SeriesLove2023 & finished during the #MagnificentMay #readathon

I am not loving this story line. It‘s a good thing I‘m invested in these characters or I‘d bail. I despise it when authors make cops the bad guys. The criminal justice profession has enough hurdles to overcome on its own without adding to the mix.

Avanders Oooh interesting! Man I can‘t wait until I can read again!! 12mo

BethM @Avanders how long before you can read again? 12mo
Avanders @BethM honestly, I hate to admit it, but prob not until fall. I just don‘t have the time/energy 😞 (wah wah) Between job, packing house, bugga, and the rest of life and focus 🥲 But hey, maybe it‘ll happen sooner! 🤞🏽 12mo

It‘s been a while since I read a book in this series, so it was nice to checkin on the characters. Having so many books in this series, the characters have really grown and I enjoyed this one much more than the last one I read. The mystery was zippy and I liked how they were able to solve it without taking unnecessary risks. And also liked reading how everything ties together.

Book 6 in the Secret, Book and Scone Society. I love returning to Miracle Springs, NC and visiting Nora and her friends. I feel like they are old friends and we are catching up.

In this book, Nora encounters some people from her previous life in an interesting twist. Nora can‘t escape her past but with the help of her friends, she can embrace it lovingly.

This was perfect in so many ways but especially the growing and growth done. Book 141.
