Arch-Conspirator | Veronica Roth
10 posts | 12 read | 8 to read
"From dystopian visionary and bestselling phenomenon Veronica Roth comes a razor-sharp reimagining of Antigone. In Arch-Conspirator, Roth reaches back to the root of legend and delivers a world of tomorrow both timeless and unexpected. "A gut punch of a story. Roth takes everything fragile about love, everything powerful about certain doom, and blooms with it. You'll be holding your breath until the very last word."-Olivie Blake, New York Times bestselling author of The Atlas Six Outside the last city on Earth, the planet is a wasteland. Without the Archive, where the genes of the dead are stored, humanity will end. Passing into the Archive should be cause for celebration, but Antigone's parents were murdered, leaving her father's throne vacant. As her militant uncle Kreon rises to claim it, all Antigone feels is rage. When he welcomes her and her siblings into his mansion, Antigone sees it for what it really is: a gilded cage, where she is a captive as well as a guest. But her uncle will soon learn that no cage is unbreakable. And neither is he"--

I'm always game for an Antigone retelling.

I was surprised at how much I liked this one given that I‘m only vaguely familiar with Antigone.

This Greek myth retelling packs a punch for something so short. I actually found one part particularly just punched me in the gut. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A feminist, dystopian, sf retelling of Antigone.

A very cool idea. Execution—a tad disappointing.

Too many POVs for this tiny thing to carry—that's what watered down its emotional punch. Also, the lack of the knowledge of the Antigone's story could decrease the enjoyment by half, or—alternatively—knowing the original well could do it a similar disservice, as it follows the original plot closely.

3/5

2nd month in a row that I start off with a meh book. If it wasn‘t so short I probably would have dropped it.
It‘s a futuristic retelling of the Sophocles play Antigone. Perhaps I would have enjoyed this more if I‘d read the play first. 🤷🏻‍♀️
On the bright side, it does complete a challenge prompt and it has inspired me to had the play to my TBR mountain.

I loved this! 💚

Veronica Roth really delivers with this futuristic Antigone retelling. I listened to this short read on audiobook and thought the narration was excellent. The story is told through each character's perspective and the story comes together in such a satisfying way.

It's been years since I've read Antigone but this made me want to revisit the original now.

A futuristic Antigone retelling! Need I say more? This was a super short great read. I recommend rereading Antigone before diving in because part of the fun is comparing the two as you go. I loved how we got every character‘s perspective and how she adapted the setting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 stars

As a philosophy nerd, I was so excited when I saw that Arch-Conspirator by Veronica Roth is a retelling of Antigone by Sophocles. I absolutely loved what Roth did with this wonderful story! There were enough elements that mirrored the original play, but also some interesting touches that updated the story as well. I enjoyed how she put a spin on the original twist of incest, but pretty much removed the creepy undertones.
