When I posted the first part of this paragraph a short while ago, and I complained about how petty the author had been already in this book, I hadn‘t even finished reading the whole paragraph. And he proves my point! He‘s petty yet again! A period after the word cathedral would have been appropriate. Then he belittles his literary compatriots back home. If this bad attitude doesn‘t end quickly I may bail. #foodandljt #Samoa @Catsandbooks

The author is hiking in the woods of New Zealand. This would be a lovely quote but for the author‘s pettiness up to this point. He has brutalized the Māori and New Zealanders.

For example: “Others evolved into enormous and complacent specimens, like the spoiled and overfed children I had seen in Auckland…” & “the most terrible aspect … was that the New Zealanders themselves did not seem to know what was happening to them in their decline”

Texreader @Cortg I‘m not too thrilled with it yet. He seems to dislike the people of New Zealand quite a bit and doesn‘t have any qualms about saying so. Hopefully he becomes enlightened or improves his embittered state of mind. 2d

Gissy I don‘t know well how to enter the books in the form. Do I have to read the books in the order of the countries mentioned? Sorry, I‘m not not good understanding these things. But is so fascinated because as @Souhiville said, there will be a chance to know about books or authors unknown to me. 🤗 2y

BarbaraBB @Gissy you don‘t need to fill them in there, but it might be handy to see the countries of which the challenge exists. The challenge focuses on Litsy though: Just read a book set in as many of the countries of Oceania and tag us and use the hashtag #ReadingOceania24. That way we can all share our books for the various countries and other will be able to find them easily! 2y

squirrelbrain I‘m also going to read this one fairly soon (bought used for 60p) as it will cover a few countries / islands. I‘m probably going to double-dip on this challenge, depending on what books I can get hold of for the other smaller, more obscure, islands.
