Very disturbing and gross horror manga with excellent artwork. About a brother and sister who bring death and chaos everywhere they go. Not for the faint of heart. 4⭐️

Reread this for horror book club. Our group‘s first manga! Turns out this may not have been the best choice. While Ito‘s graphics are of course stunning, the structure of the five interconnected stories was so similar that our conversation floundered. I liked the two short pieces at the end, which were odd and unexplained. This collection is repetitive but still has that blend of unsettling horror, grossness, & humor that I like in his work.

RaeLovesToRead Oh God. That's horrible 😭😭😭 I really can't cope with Junji Ito, hahaha 😵 2y
Michael_Gee @RaeLovesToRead HA! I know. Some of his images make me put the book down and take a breather. One of the people that came to book club is especially disturbed by body horror and said this was tough for them. 2y
RaeLovesToRead I am that person too! 😅😅 Think I would have skipped book club that week 😉 2y

Re-reading this guy and it‘s still as fun as ever. Grizzly and gross in the best of ways.

For that first theme, check out the chapter "Dissolving Beauty." For the second, just read all of it.

Gross. Creepy. Bizarre. Fascinating. I'm disturbed and captivated by Junji Ito's storytelling. This is a story of unhappy, grisly endings. It's wtf-level weird. And I loved every panel!

If horror is something you enjoy, or even just weird stories, give this one a go. It's fantastic. But be aware, there is a lot of beautifully drawn body horror so if you have a weak stomach you may want to avoid this title. Or any of Ito's titles really!

This was weird even for Junji Ito. 😂 This is the first short story collection I've read by him; I've read his longer story arcs, Gyo and Uzumaki. This manga has 5 stories that tie together with the same creepy brother and sister. I love his work, so I still enjoyed this, but I definitely prefer his longer storylines. This is great for fans of Junji Ito, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone interested in reading his manga for the first time.
