Atlas of the Heart
Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of Human Experience | Brené Brown
In her latest book, five-time #1 New York Times bestselling author Dr. Brené Brown writes, “If we want to find the way back to ourselves and one another, we need language and the grounded confidence to both tell our stories and to be stewards of the stories that we hear. This is the framework for meaningful connection.” In Atlas of the Heart, Brown takes us on a journey through eighty-seven of the emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human. As she maps the necessary skills and an actionable framework for meaningful connection, she gives us the language and tools to access a universe of new choices and second chances—a universe where we can share and steward the stories of our bravest and most heartbreaking moments with one another in a way that builds connection. Over the past two decades, Brown’s extensive research into the experiences that make us who we are has shaped the cultural conversation and helped define what it means to be courageous with our lives. Atlas of the Heart draws on this research, as well as on Brown’s singular skills as a storyteller, to show us how accurately naming an experience doesn’t give the experience more power, it gives us the power of understanding, meaning, and choice. Brown shares, “I want this book to be an atlas for all of us, because I believe that, with an adventurous heart and the right maps, we can travel anywhere and never fear losing ourselves.”

1. Atlas of the Heart by Brene Brown
2. The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert
3. An Immense World by Ed Yong
I could probably add a dozen more...

lil1inblue I really need to get to The Sixth Extinction. 2mo
RamsFan1963 @lil1inblue I'd also recommend Under A White Sky. She's got a new book coming out later this month called H is for Hope: Climate Change From A to Z, I'm looking forward to reading that too. 2mo
dabbe 3 for me to look into! Thanks for sharing. 💚💙💚 2mo

I am not a Feelings person but can appreciate, as an editor, the value of having a wide vocabulary to describe said feelings. I will likely pick up my own copy to flip through and revisit.

Enjoyed this audio, as I am navigating difficult times and trying to understand my own emotions better. Also had a chance to page through the hard copy, and it is beautiful. Brené Brown narrates and ad libs anecdotes throughout. Another part I loved in the audio is when she has one of her staff read her own essay she wrote in the book about being an undocumented minor. This audio provides a separate experience from the book, both are lovely.

April was another great month for books, like The Goodbye Coast/Joe Ide and The Book of Cold Cases/Simone St. James, but no book hit me harder than the tagged one. It will definitely be on my list as one of the best books of 2022, probably in the top 3.

Andrew65 Some excellent books here! 1y
dabbe @Andrew65 Am I playing this right? Does the book have to have been published in 2022, or do we pick our best read of the month no matter when it was published? I can be a real dunce sometimes when it comes to challenges like these. And I was a teacher! You'd think I'd know how to follow directions. 😀 1y
RamsFan1963 @dabbe Its the book I think was the best book I read in that given month, no matter when it was originally published. 1y
Andrew65 @dabbe No you are right as @RamsFan1963 has said. It is your favourite book read in that month, it doesn‘t matter when it was published. 😊 1y

Amazing! Brené Brown always make me think, dig deep and consider my feelings and behaviors. This book gave me a lot to think about and I will be thinking about it for a long time. It also gave me some strategies I plan to use at work. Great on #audio ! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

Smarkies This was also on Netflix. I should pick up the audiobook. 😄 1y
rabbitprincess I‘m like 200-something on the holds list for this one! 1y

I have no interest in self help unless Brené Brown writes it. Her latest contribution - Atlas of the Heart - was truly phenomenal. She speaks a language we all need to understand.

âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸ I wish I could download this book to my brain! Brené offered a nuance to emotions that I didn‘t know I desperately needed to make sense of literally almost anything one can experience. I saw so much of myself and people I know in the emotions. I feel as one should feel after a mind-expanding book: more connected to humanity and left with more to learn.

âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸

Journeying through eighty-seven emotions might not sound like the most exciting adventure, but Brené‘s newest work is psychologically fascinating, providing the language to help us better understand and make meaning of our experiences, and then turn that into deeper connection with others. ⬇ï¸

ICantImReading I loved listening to her narrate this - I can tell she‘s an amazing teacher! Usually with non-fiction I find myself rewinding a lot to let things sink in, but she frequently re-read phrases for emphasis and clarification. It looks like this would also be a beautiful physical book to own, and one I would like to return to often, so someday I‘ll have to pick up a copy. 🎧 2y

45/150 🤯🤯🤯 Mind. Blown. This book has totally changed the way I view my emotions and definitely how I read emotions in others. I found that I've been using the wrong words to express my feelings all along. I need to buy a print copy so I can reread it, and highlight all the amazing observations. There were times, while walking, that this would hit me so hard, I had to just stop and stand for a few moments. 5 âââââ It deserves more!!

BookBabe Great review! 🙌🻠I know the feeling of needing the print copy upon finishing the audio 😄 2y

Wow, this book is much needed. Loving the feeling I get when I start to understand and take control of my emotions. 87 of our emotions and experiences are outlined in this book and the way it is laid out is so logical. Want to know the actual difference between envy and jealousy? Stress and overwhelm? Awe and wonder? This is the book for you.

80+ emotions in one book? It‘s a lot. And it‘s so good. There are definitely some nuances that will fundamentally change my life. However if you‘re a fan of Brené‘s, many of the stories and examples are the same from her other books, so if you are picking this up for more or new material of Dr. Brown, this isn‘t it. But if you‘re wanting to nerd out about emotions with her, this is it.

Last night, I watched the Random House virtual book launch of Brene Brown‘s new book. The book is gorgeous, and I am going to savor it! Took notes last night. Thankful for my local bookstore Main Point Books in Wayne, PA for offering this opportunity to the community.
