pickToy Story 2 only Woody and Jesse are more like your slightly racist grandma. I had a great time reading this because Hitty‘s adventures were so outlandish that you just had to laugh. I also really want to make a Moby Dick joke because I got some serious flashbacks to that vibe.

Big week for me in that I finished my BookSpin white whale that has taken me forever to finish. I also started the Corine Solomon series because it was an impulse buy at the used bookstore when I was looking for something else.

I managed to finish Trumpeter of Krakow and get a little over the 50% point in Watership Down which truly amazes me because I've been procrastinating on it hard. I've also started Hitty as a sort of reward for working on Watership Down.

panStory of a carved doll and her travels around the world. Newbery award winner that probably wasn't very popular. Strike one -- about a doll. Strike two -- not very exciting or if it seemed like it was getting there, that part was glossed over. Strike three -- not very PC with characterization.
so-soA small handmade doll retells her adventures that includes a whaling ship. It was fine until she compared herself to a slave being sold at an auction. That was way too flippant, in my opinion.

pickA really charming story about a doll made of mountain-ash wood and her adventures over a hundred years. I love books that make me curious enough that I stop and look things up. I did that a few times while reading this book. Hitty is a little shallow, but I suppose that‘s to be expected of a doll. 😉

pickI have bad news: Hitty is a lil bit racist. This is a bigger issue with "Hitty" than the author's previous "Calico Bush". Her portrayal of Polynesians is particularly appalling. Still, if you can enjoy "Gilligan's Island" you can enjoy "Hitty".
It won the 1930 #Newbery Medal.
pickBitty is a classic that everyone should read. The book is about the story of a doll that travels the world, is dressed like a bride and lost a lot. 🌎 👰
