1) My grandfather was a high school math teacher, and my parents looked through the absentee list from his school for name inspiration. So I am technically named after someone who didn't bother showing up for school! 😂

2) I adored the tagged book growing up - a protagonist with my name and the ability to move things with her mind, just like Roald Dahl's Matilda (my other favorite book)? Sign me up!

Nostalgia points; this was a favorite of my sister‘s and I remember begging to read it, and maybe finally just stealing it. Now I have my own copy 😆 and I think it still works, if some parts are a little dated (30 cents to ride a bus?). Katie can move things with her mind, and her silver eyes make people uncomfortable. When someone starts asking too many questions she starts to wonder if there might be more kids like her.

HeyT I remember loving this when I was younger. It‘s the first genre fic that stuck with me after I read it. 2y

AND she‘s reading my favorite book from childhood. I don‘t remember noticing any of this when I read this as a kid.

And part four of library discards #bookhaul starts with a childhood favorite (tagged). It‘s my sister‘s, so now I have my own copy! Kiddo and I love Witch Mountain (original movie) and while I dislike the movie cover I won‘t quibble with free. I‘ve been wanting to read the other three and they fell into my arms today. What a haul!

Clare-Dragonfly I loved this book and the original Witch Mountain movie too! 😍😍😍 3y

Finally crossing one off my #popsugarreadingchallenge ! This was one of my favourites when I was a kid, so I thought I‘d choose it for my book that makes me nostalgic, but I think it‘ll be “A book that I think should be turned into a movie” instead.

Because you can never have enough movies about kids with telekinesis. #24in48

It had been 30+ years since I read this book! It really stood the test of time. Just as good now as it was then. (Whew!!)
This was the cover art on the old book. 😄😄😄

I first had this book when I was 10-11 years old, back in the early ‘80s. I loved it and read it over and over until the book fell apart. I was thinking about it recently, and decided to buy a new copy. Time to re-read and reminisce! 💙 👧🏽 📚

Heatherfeather I'm always curious if books hold up after time but am too scared to actually test it myself. 😁 6y
No_One @Heatherfeather haha, this is a risk for me, too! For sure the Little House books have held up for me. I will be optimistic. 🙂 6y
SaunteringVaguelyDownwards This and Dahl's Matilda were my favorites when I was young! Clearly I had the glasses and appetite for reading and just wanted the superpowers to go with them. 6y
No_One @SaunteringVaguelyDownwards same here! I don‘t remember Matilda, but I know I read it once. I really related to Katie in this book. I am almost finished - it is exactly as good as I remember. 🙂 6y

I love it when the characters in a book enjoy books & reading as much as I do ❤️

Nute I like that also. It‘s like an automatic kinship with the character. 6y

These were the first books to come to mind for #Apples. As a kid, The Girl with the Silver Eyes made me want psychic abilities and The Dollhouse Murders freaked me out, especially since I had a dollhouse in my bedroom. The idea of moving dolls still creeps me out! #Riotgrams

quietjenn Oh, Apple paperbacks we're my favorite as a kid! Looking back now, I suppose they were my first concept of a publisher/imprint, not that I would've known what that was. 7y

This seems to make a lot of people's favorite childhood books lists! I have yet to read it, but these first few lines in the description sound promising:

"Katie Welker is used to being alone. She would rather read a book than deal with other people."

#MayBookFlowers And it has an apple on the cover so it counts for today's prompt #fruit ?☺?

monkeygirlsmama I've never heard of it before, but now I'm gonna check it out. 7y
ReadingEnvy Yes my absolute favorite as a kid and then as an adult my eyes turned silver so... Pretty sure I have secret powers. 7y
Bradleygirl Aw I loved this one too! 7y

I've fallen behind for the #ReadJanuary photo challenge, so I'm doubling up: The Girl on the Train is my pick for both #BookEveryoneButYouHasRead and #GirlintheTitle. Another one that I feel like I'm the only person who hasn't read is Harry Potter & the Cursed Child. More "Girl" titles: childhood fave, The Girl with the Silver Eyes by Willo Davis Roberts, and Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy.

LazyOwl I haven't read HP and the cursed child, I'm not sure I would like the screenplay format 7y
TK-421 @LazyOwl I'm a bit leery about the format too but hoping I will be able to get past it 7y

Three fictional characters that are me - a combination of the outlook of the unnamed female anthropologist in Mating, the silver eyes and psychic powers of my favorite childhood novel, and the belief in love of Anne Elliot in Persuasion.

In 2nd grade there were three Apple paperbacks I checked out over and over. As an adult, I became a librarian and watched my blue eyes turn silver. Coincidence? #FunFridayPhoto
