My top 2021 feminist reads*. A rainbow colored ❤️ = a 📚 that has 🏳️‍🌈 representation. One of the pics switches when I download it. So, the Seed Keeper should be on the list.

*feminist reads: 📚 that shed light on institutionalized “‘sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression.‘.. it so clearly states that the movement is not about being anti-male. It makes it clear that the problem is sexism” (bell hooks, tagged book).

This book explores the fundamentals of feminism. A must read for anyone and everyone. I definitely could use a physical copy, lots of "Ah Ha" moments.

I really liked the emphasis on systems and the way that systems of oppression affect everyone, but it is a little out of date. It‘s not the most approachable for a primer, but definitely interesting.

Foundational and accessible. More anecdotal than I was expecting (not a bad thing at all). A gateway into feminist ideas.

Bonus: the audiobook is narrated by Robin Miles who is top notch.

Susannah I love the title. Simple, but it seems like such a difficult thing for people to understand. 5y

I found this accessible, engaging, and thought-provoking. I don‘t agree with hooks on everything, but I think this is an excellent short introduction to feminism for people who are new to it and really trying to understand it. There are a couple of chapters that I would love to make everyone read. It is overall a balanced, well-written text, but if you are expecting an academic theory book with citations and historical context, look elsewhere.

A little late night cleaning (taking a bath is serious business) and finally starting my reading for the first meeting of my feminist book club...on Tuesday 😳. Maybe better reading organization should be part of my upcoming New Year‘s resolution. 😂

So this used book store I visited today has a completely massive section for Gender Studies. This is just the half I was facing for the photo. Amazing selection of LGBTQ and feminism books. They also have fairly massive sections on many cultures, races, tribes and indigenous peoples. #usedbooks #getindie #feminism #readdiversely #genderstudies #lgbtq #midtownscholar #harrisburgpa #happybibliophage

Unfortunately, I lost steam reading the second half of this book. While only 110 pages, it is SO DENSE. The first several chapters were enrapturing, and then you just get bogged down in theory, vocabulary, and class politics. I will revisit someday.

A nice and succinct introduction to feminism. hooks uses small chapters to talk about different aspects of a person's life, having gender in the center of the topic. There were some points that I didn't agree with but overall the book is good.

While I cannot express how grateful I am that hooks emphasizes that men need to fight sexism too, I disagree that you have to believe X, Y and Z to qualify as a "real" feminist. But this book is short enough it's worth a read to see her discussion/critiques on different types of feminism. | ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you, random stranger, for already underlining these great quotes in this library book. While I disapprove of defacing library property, I admire your enthusiasm for feminism. Bravo.
