Premeditated Myrtle
Premeditated Myrtle | Elizabeth C. Bunce
13 posts | 12 read | 16 to read
Twelve-year-old Myrtle Hardcastle has a passion for justice and a Highly Unconventional obsession with criminal science. Armed with her fathers law books and her mums microscope, Myrtle studies toxicology, keeps abreast of the latest developments in crime scene analysis, and Observes her neighbors in the quiet village of Swinburne, England. When her next-door neighbor, a wealthy spinster and eccentric breeder of rare flowers, dies under Mysterious Circumstances, Myrtle seizes her chance. With her unflappable governess, Miss Ada Judson, by her side, Myrtle takes it upon herself to prove Miss Wodehouse was murdered and find the killer, even if nobody else believes her not even her father, the town prosecutor. With sparkling wit and a tight, twisty plot, Premeditated Myrtle, the first in a series from an award-winning author, introduces a brilliant young investigator ready to take on hard cases and maddening Victorian rules for Young Ladies of Quality in order to earn her place among the most daring and acclaimed amateur detectives of her time or any other.

I enjoyed the first installment of this middle grade mystery series about a young girl detective in 1890s England.
Myrtle differs from Flavia de Luce in some significant ways (although they are both motherless), nevertheless, if you enjoy the Flavia, I think you'd enjoy Myrtle as well.

jlhammar This sounds fun. Love Flavia! 2y
batsy Fun! Big Flavia fan here, too. 2y
merelybookish I think you'd both enjoy Myrtle! @jlhammar @batsy 2y

My 4th #MiddleGradeMarchThroughTime audiobook got me through this whole sock! Myrtle was a blast and I'm so glad I picked this one up! I've got a few middle school girls who have been on a mystery kick lately, so I'm going to encourage them to give series a try. I know I will be continuing with the sequels soon!

I loved this middle grade historical mystery. Great for fans of Enola Holmes or Wells & Wong/Murder Most Unladylike series.

80% of me tidying up my apartment is stacking books into neat piles and quietly panicking...

I have such an obsession with middle grade books having kid sleuths so super excited to read this. I have to get to the Enola Holmes books soon.

DGRachel I heard really good things about this one. My library doesn‘t have it on audio, so I think I‘ll be using my next Libro.fm credit on it. 😍 3y

I reviewed the first two books in this wonderful series here:

Check them out if you're interested in a great middle-grade series with a spunky, smart heroine! #arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This one was pitched pretty hard at Winter Institute and sounds fun. Need to read some fluff right now.
