This story is a great opportunity to tell a story through illustrations. This book tells a story through body language and emotions. Students can write their own stories by drawing pictures and conveying meaning through illustrations.
You can use Flora and the Flamingo in the classroom to teach storytelling through illustrations and body language. Students can practice sequencing the plot without text, then create their own wordless stories. It‘s also great for lessons on cooperation, friendship, and interpreting emotions through visual cues and movement.

The illustrations in Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle tell the story without words, using graceful movements and expressions to show friendship and teamwork. The soft pinks and flowing lines create a sense of elegance and playfulness. Interactive flaps add depth, inviting readers to engage directly with the story.
I would use this book with younger children. It is a book that shows a friendship form through pictures and it would help show younger kids what they can do to make friends.
Picture book (2013) The illustrations are a masterclass in visual storytelling. The minimalist palette of soft pinks, whites, and subtle yellows creates an elegant, airy atmosphere that complements the ballet theme. Idle's use of interactive flaps adds a dynamic element. The fluidity and grace captured in each illustration mirror the dance between Flora and the flamingo, making the book a visually captivating experience.
This is a wordless book. If I could add a quote I would add “No words are needed to tell their story—only the language of dance.“ I would add this at the end of the book.
This book would be great to use with young kids. The flabs that open and close helps engage the child and not using words help them tell the story. I can have students think about what animal they would want to dance with and why.
The pictures in Flora and the Flamingo are soft and pretty, made with gentle watercolors and light pencil lines. The pink and white colors help show the dance between Flora and the flamingo. The pages have lots of empty space that makes the movements feel smooth and calm. The drawings show feelings and actions without any words, so kids can understand the story just by looking.

Flora and the Flamingo is a F-RA Caldecott honor book about a girl who does a synchronized dance with a flamingo. This is an interactive open-the-flap book with NO WORDS which leaves lots of creativity open to the teacher and students. #UCFLAE3414SP21

I worked 13.5 hours of overtime last Saturday, but it was worth it. We arranged a #picturebook illustrators‘ studio tour. This is Molly Idle‘s studio where I‘m looking through an early dummy of the tagged book. In case you‘re curious, Molly is as lovely as her illustrations.

Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle is a RF picture book like no other. For starters, it tells an incredible story of an unlikely friendship with no words. This Caldecott winning book will make your students appreciate the diversity in literary works, a must have in your elementary classroom library. An “IR” assignment with this book will be amazing to see what students think of the book when discussing it as a group later on. #UCFLAE3414F19

Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle was written in 2013. Even though this book did not have any words, it was an amazing picture book. The illustrations really made the story and you definetly did not need words to make this story amazing and adorable!

There are no words in this book so here is my favorite illustration
This was so cute I loved how the book had pull back sections so there was a surprise with every page
Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle was written in 2013 and is an award winning book. This book was so cute and really gives us a message about friendship. There are no words, but the illustrations tell us all we need to know. Flora was struggling with dancing and the Flamingo took her under her wing and helped her learn. They became friends through helping each other learn something new. Very cute.
Although this book doesn‘t have words, I think it is a great book to show the wonder and curiosity of young children toward animals.
This book was very cute and fun, especially for girls. It shows how a curious little girl named Flora interacts with a flamingo and the way it‘s moves.

Flora and the flamingo is an illustrated award winning RF book by molly idle. It has no words through out the story but I thought it would be a great book for partnered reading since there‘s only 2 characters and the students could engage with each other by acting out the book. This isnt your average picture book. This Caldecott award winning book by Molly Idle contains no words at all! But it tells a story nonetheless. This book can inspire students to create a story of their own especially if the struggle with reading and writing.

So many milestones and generous Littens this weekend!! Congrats and Thank You to @CoffeeCatsBooks . One of my favourite animals has to be the flamingo!! I especially love it when I get to see them in the wild. They're so cool. 😎 #payitforward Visit her page for more details!!

Sadly, I believe my flamingo has sprung a leak, so an opportunistic #rockycat takes advantage of sleeping spot. He has since moved once the sun hit him. #doesntfollowthesun #movesaround #summerinoz 🐱

I ❤️ this wordless picture book. It's full of wonder, joy and friendship. The other Flora stories are delightful too.

Another one the kids really enjoyed lately is Flora and the Flamingo, a wordless picture book with flaps. It is an adorable story with great art. It is as good as Flora and the Penguin, another big hit in our house.

A little pink, a little yoga, and a little ballet come together in this wordless picture book. A serene experience for both readers, and read-to‘s.
