Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders: 5th Edition: DSM-5 | American Psychiatric Association
4 posts | 3 read
This new edition of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5[trademark]), used by clinicians and researchers to diagnose and classify mental disorders, is the product of more than 10-plus years of effort by hundreds of international experts in all aspects of mental health. Their dedication and hard work have yielded an authoritative volume that defines and classifies mental disorders in order to improve diagnoses, treatment, and research. This manual, which creates a common language for clinicians involved in the diagnosis of mental disorders, includes concise and specific criteria intended to facilitate an objective assessment of symptom presentations in a variety of clinical settings - inpatient, outpatient, partial hospital, consultation liaison, clinical, private practice, and primary care. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, is the most comprehensive, current, and critical resource for clinical practice available to today's mental health clinicians and researchers of all orientations. The information contained in the manual is also valuable to other physicians and health professionals, including psychologists, counselors, nurses, and occupational and rehabilitation therapists, as well as social workers and forensic and legal specialists. DSM-5[trademark] is the most definitive resource for the diagnosis and classification of mental disorders.

We have bimonthly reading themes over on our website, GatheringBooks.org. This March-April we are featuring books that portray mental illness (and physical illness too) and differently-abled in literature. If you have recommended titles, fellow Littens, please do share with me so that we can hunt down those books, poetry, picturebooks, memoirs, graphic novels. Tales of recovery, rehabilitation, hospitals are also included! :)

TobeyTheScavengerMonk The Ables is a book about differently-abled kids with superpowers. 7y
readinginthedark This one's a memoir about mental and physical struggles with an eating disorder. 7y

GatheringBooks @Ebooksandcooks thank you for those titles! have not read most of them so will definitely try to hunt them down. @TobeyTheScavengerMonk I am loving the premise of the book already! will try to find that one too! @readinginthedark - oooh! very reminiscent of kundera's unbearable lightness of being! thank you so much, everyone for the stellar recommendations! 7y
GatheringBooks @MrsMalaprop havent heard of this one - will definitely look for it! thanks! 7y

This book was published in 1963 - it doesn't have an isbn and isn't in Litsy's database. And someday I should actually read it and get it back to the friend I #borrowed it from! I'm hoping it's an interesting look into what was considered weird back then, rather than a book that will be bigoted enough to make me throw it across the room. But I don't know yet. #booktober

Last blurb for this day haha. I'd like to give tribute to my college books. I saw them stacked with each other and realized they're in between the read, reading and to be read pile. They're in the limbo. Starting my first job this October 1st and seeing them makes me nostalgic [and nauseous (they're so heavy in my arms 🎶)]. 😍 #Psycho

wildfireheart Is your first job in the realm of psychology? 8y

#somethingforsept day 5- workplace reads! I have a Masters in Clinical Psychology and work for a behavioral health agency. Needless to say, this is a staple at the office- although not exactly a page turner 😝

Rebeccak HAHAH seeing this on LITSY just made me jump. I'm getting my masters in social work and have been avoiding buying this because it's expensive! 8y
amywithbooks @Rebeccak I feel your pain, I had to buy the DSM-IV when I was in grad school and I remember thinking how many actual readable books I could have been buying with that money 😫 8y
