My Life | Bill Clinton
11 posts | 23 read | 9 to read
President Bill Clinton's My Life is the strikingly candid self-portrait of a world leader who decided in early life to devote his intellectual and political gifts, and his extraordinary capacity for hard work, to serving the people of America and the entire world population. It is the fullest, most concretely detailed, most nuanced account of a presidency ever written, and a testament to the positive impact that his work and his political ideals had on America and on the world. Here is the life of a great national and international figure, revealed with all his talents and contradictions. Filled with fascinating moments and insights, it is told openly, directly, in President Clinton's immediately recognisable voice. A fascinating journey through American politics, and one of the world's most famous politicians, and popular presidents.

When I go to Goodwill, I always look for hardcover biographies/autobiographies in good condition. Getting enough to showcase on a separate shelf!

Today in my reading class, we explored writing about individuals - autobiography, biography, memoir, graphic novel memoir, letters, diaries. What is your favorite title in those areas?

KCorter I see Maus and Persepolis! Those are two of my favorites. I also really enjoyed Marzi. 7y
Conservio I absolutely loved "Florence Nightingale, Feminist" by Judith Cromwell. I also enjoyed "The invention of Nature" by Andrea Wulf, and "Empress Dowager Cixi: The Concubine Who Launched Modern China" by Chang Jung. 7y
merelybookish Dear Genius! It was entertaining and I learned a lot. 7y

batsy @merelybookish Loved Dear Genius! 💜@ReadingEnvy I think this might be favourite genre... Thinking of Virginia Woolf's diaries, May Sarton's journals, Judith Thurman's Colette bio, Claire Tomalin's Jane Austen bio, and also the Edith Wharton one by Hermione Lee. 7y
andrew61 A book i only read recently but would recommend is Bad blood by Lorna Sage. 7y

There was a time when it was more likely for me to meet famous and influential people because I was living in Northern Ireland.

Bill Clinton autographed his autobiography in Belfast. A woman ahead of me in line asked for him to make it out to "Ee-fa", and proceeded to spell out the name A-O-I-F-E! As people in Northern Ireland would say, it takes a "brass neck" to be so bold as to ask a President to personalise his autograph!

#SignedSundays

Libby1 The woman was like, "The name's Aoife, don't you know. What do you mean you don't know it?!?" ? 7y
Hollie A friend of mine named her daughter Aoife, and I'm sure she will be spelling it for everyone her entire life! 7y
Libby1 It's a beautiful name, @Hollie . The funny thing was that this woman was almost offended that Bill Clinton didn't know how to spell it! 😃 7y

LauraBrook Wasn't there a minor character in One of the Vicar of Dibley episodes with a name close to Aoife? 7y
Libby1 Ooh, @LauraBrook . I don't remember that. I thought I'd seen most of the episodes but I may have missed that one! 7y
Hollie @Libby1 that's hilarious. I wouldn't have known how to spell it, either, she should not have been offended! 7y
Zelma @Libby1 her irritation or astonishment at having to spell her name is my favorite part of this whole story! 😂😂 7y
lynneamch My daughter and I met Pres. Clinton in Strawberry Plains, Iowa. I took a picture of him shaking her hand, but forgot the camera was on telephoto. So, all I have is a picture of his tie. 🙄 7y

#ReadJanuary I love you both but my goodness, you're so wonky. 😘 #slowread

BookishMarginalia 💜💜💜 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I have the audiobook of My Life and he reads it. So good! 7y
MicheleinPhilly I think it took me 3 months to make my way through it. Although that can partially be blamed on the fact that I didn't want to carry it anywhere. Hard Choices took me 6 months. Also didn't want to bring it anywhere b/c it's signed. ☺ 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Oh cool - signed copies are valuable. And, in this case, wonky. I still haven't read Hard Choices, but would like to. I read 7y

Fun conversation that came up tonight. What do you want Bill Clinton's title to be if Hilary gets elected? First Gentleman? Something gender neutral like First Consort?

TheSpinecrackersBookClub Hah! I love the fact that you borrowed books from your friend! I will be ransacking the boyfriend's shelf soon for books. 8y
