17-year-old Andre Cobb from Boston develops the ability to travel in time after receiving a liver transplant. The time comes when he must choose between a romantic interest in the 1970s and his present-day (2021). ⬇

rwmg I think the author did well with what he set out to do and I enjoyed the romances but I would have liked more about other times Andre visited (the only one mentioned was the Titanic). Perhaps it was just a symptom of how long it took from the author's laptop to publication, but since Andre was a transplant patient in 2021 and his parents were medical researchers I was surprised there was no mention of Covid. 5mo

I wanted more of the time traveling and less of the romance

Andre has been given a fresh start with a new liver, except the boy who donated the organ also passed along his ability to time travel. Now Andre spends his time either in the past with 1970s Michael or the present with his donor's brother Blake. Each boy causes him to look at himself and his life in a new light.
I was hesitant going into this because I dislike love triangles, but this was a fantastic book about grief and hope and identity.

(2021) YA SF romance about a teenage cancer patient who receives a liver transplant and discovers that the new organ comes with the ability to travel through time. A love triangle ensues, involving the time-traveler, a dreamy young man from the 1970's, and the organ donor's hunky brother. It's too romancey for me, but it made Locus magazine's 2021 Recommended Reading list, so others have loved it.

Saturday was a LONG day. I was working #Penguicon near Detroit, but drove home to Toledo to go to the NW Ohio Teen Book Festival where I met Kosoko Jackson, Derf Backderf, Mindy McGinnis, and Kit Frick. Then I drove BACK to Detroit to finish out the show... where I accidentally met Claire Winn.

I'm not sure I've ever been this tired in my life. 😅

DivineDiana Quite an exhausting schedule, but at least there were books! And authors! 👏🏻📚👏🏻 2y

Andre jumps back in time after receiving a new liver transplant. He learns his donor was a time traveler and he‘s now inherited the ability. This leads to a love triangle between the boy from the past and one he‘s just met in the present. Andre must also decide what to do with his own future.
I wanted to learn more about the time traveling, but the focus was on the romance. Ultimately it wasn‘t for me, but I can see how would others like it.

3.5 ⭐ I hate time travel books, but I really liked this novel. Andre Cobb has just had a liver transplant due to cancer. With this liver transplant comes the ability to time travel. His first trip he had no idea what was going on. But with help from his donor family, he learns the ins and outs of time travels and why he has this ability. This story is also a love triangle. This would not really be a rom-com, but definitely a romance.

One of the best books I‘ve read! All characters were so well developed, and the storyline flowed with ease. I like how it was sort of full circle in a way too. Definitely recommend!

GingerAntics The snark here is STRONG! 💙💙💙 I love it. It‘s also, very sadly, true. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics Yea, I liked those comments on society in this one. 3y
GingerAntics This is sitting, waiting to go in my Amazon cart. I‘m glad someone read it so I could get a feel for what it‘s like. I think this is going to be on March‘s order. 3y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics It‘s definitely YA, so angsty relationship issues, which isn‘t always my thing. But I liked that he centered a black gay teen as the love interest, and brought up as asides other social issues. Not as humorous as Simon vs the Homo Sapien Agenda, a bit more serious, but I enjoyed it as light read. I also snagged it from the library, being new out I think I was it‘s first checkout. 3y
GingerAntics YA always gives me pause. For some reason, most of them feel like they fall into cliches. 3y
GingerAntics I found Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda at my library (an audiobook no less), but they don‘t have Yesterday is History yet. It is really new. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics Maybe try interlibrary loan? Not to discourage you from supporting new authors.... but I‘m a big believer in using my library to its fullest. 3y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @GingerAntics YA often gives me pause too, they often fall into the cliches and are angsty....but sometimes I love a good YA romance, it has teen miscommunication and angsty/self doubt/ growing pains.... but it‘s often still lighter than adult romance stories....and they usually have a “Happily Ever After” feeling to them, positive outcome at least. I sometimes need that light happy read. (edited) 3y
GingerAntics @Riveted_Reader_Melissa my library is still closed for that kind of thing. You can only do curb side and they‘re not moving things around between libraries yet. It‘s really new, so I‘ll keep it on my list and keep an eye on the library. 3y

This was a fun YA read...what if your organ transplant came with special powers from its previous owner? For a gay, black teen who has just survived cancer and an organ transplant, his most pressing worry is trying to finish up classes & graduate on time. Time travel wasn‘t even on his radar. Suddenly he‘s met a great guy (in the past), and is thrown into a close relationship with the donor‘s family as they try to teach him his new gift/curse.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ I really enjoyed this, even though it‘s YA and full of growing pains, it was also a page turner that dealt realistically with both gay and Black issues both in the past and today, plus a family‘s grief and a young man‘s quest to grow into himself. (edited) 3y

Know what‘s fun? Ordering a book, having it arrive, and then reading it all in one day. 😅

Wasn‘t my original plan but here we are. I really enjoyed this story of love and time travel and it wasn‘t as sad as I was fearing it would be. This was also my #DoubleSpin for #bookspinbingo so that might have prompted my choice of reading today as well.

#currentlyreading #digital #preview #rsomarch2021 starting to read for next year‘s Standing Orders. This will be hardback but it‘s full of my favourite tropes: LGBTQIA, time travel, coming of age, own voices, diversity, so while it probably won‘t make the list, I still covet it.
