Kiss Me First
Kiss Me First | Lottie Moggach
A chilling and intense first novel, the story of a solitary young woman drawn into an online world run by a charismatic web guru who entices her into impersonating a glamorous but desperate woman. When Leila discovers the Web site Red Pill, she feels she has finally found people who understand her. A sheltered young woman raised by her mother, Leila has often struggled to connect with the girls at school; but on Red Pill, a chat forum for ethical debate, Leila comes into her own, impressing the Web site's founder, a brilliant and elusive man named Adrian. Leila is thrilled when Adrian asks to meet her, flattered when he invites her to be part of "Project Tess." Tess is a woman Leila might never have met in real life. She is beautiful, urbane, witty, and damaged. As they e-mail, chat, and Skype, Leila becomes enveloped in the world of Tess, learning every single thing she can about this other womanbecause soon, Leila will have to become her. An ingeniously plotted novel of stolen identity, Kiss Me First is brilliantly frightening about the lies we tellto ourselves, to others, for good, and for ill.

Was surprised by this book, didn't have high hopes as I got it from poundland 🙈 but I really enjoyed it. It was different to what I usually read and it was a really good plot.

Interesting idea (Tess plans to take her own life and Leila‘s task is to impersonate Tess online life), but weak/uninteresting execution. The major problem is the pacing. The very slow tempo doesn‘t adds anything to build the tension and unfortunately the story quickly becomes boring, and with the stereotypical characters also - predictable.

I felt like this book was a bit slow once it got started. I really expected it to be more exciting and for there to be more twists, but the writing style didn‘t really captivate me. This centers around a site that people communicate on that turns into a dark proposition for the main character. I just wanted it to hold my interest more than it did. #booked2019 #socialmediafocus

Hestapleton This looks like it could be an Ann Rule book 😂 5y

Finished up my #weekendread, came across this one while searching for the #Booked2019 #SocialMediaFocus prompt.
Somewhere between a so-so and a pick.

Didn't want to stop reading this one! 😁
I really liked the dark and dangerous atmosphere this has.
The characters were good, although the plot was not always all that believable.

I'm planning to watch the Netflix series based on it

#kissmefirst #overdrive
EDIT: I meant to add a possible #triggerwarning

Soubhiville I‘ve watched the first two episodes, pretty good! I didn‘t know there was a book! 6y
Angela66 How are the male characters? 6y
glitterkitty459 @Angela66 Most of the male characters were somewhat secondary (until maybe towards the end) The main characters were Leila and Tess, I really liked them. Hope this helps! 😁📚 6y

Finished this today. Imogen Church is the absolute best narrator. I love her. This story though. It was soooo good but the ending was left open or rather just very vague. I'm not big on having to decide what happened, I want to be told . I like that shocking ending that lets you know exactly what just happened and why. This didn't. I'll have to see if there is a sequel

Could pick lots under-hyped books for Day26 of #augustofpages (incl Things They Didn't See Coming, The First Book of Calamity Leek), but I'm going for Kiss Me First! It's one of a million books written in the style of Gone Girl, but this one stood out for me. A shy girl offers to assume the online identity of a girl who wishes to die without upsetting her family too much. The idea is to lose contact gradually but a bunch of twists & turns ensue!!
