Why Don't You Write My Eulogy Now So I Can Correct It?: A Mother's Suggestions | Patricia Marx
6 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
The perfect Mother's Day gift: A collection of witty one-line advice New Yorker writer Patricia Marx heard from her mother, accompanied by full-color illustrations by New Yorker staff cartoonist Roz Chast. Every mother knows best, but New Yorker writer Patty Marx's knows better. Patty has never been able to shake her mother's one-line witticisms from her brain, so she's collected them into a book, accompanied by full color illustrations by New Yorker staff cartoonist Roz Chast. These snappy maternal cautions include: If you feel guilty about throwing away leftovers, put them in the back of your refrigerator for five days and then throw them out. If you run out of food at your dinner party, the world will end. When traveling, call the hotel from the airport to say there aren't enough towels in your room and, by the way, you'd like a room with a better view. Why don't you write my eulogy now so I can correct it? Every child will want to buy this for mom on Mother's Day!

When I was growing up and my mom issued another arbitrary rule, we would catalog them: rule no. 645.3a or rule 882.6b. So this book is very relatable.

It only takes about 15 minutes to read but quite entertaining.

I appreciate a more subversive approach to Mother's Day, but I am on board for sleeping in, coffee delivery, and treats.

Happy Saturday! It has been a lonnnnnng week, but I‘m done my work and my chores for the morning, so now I‘m throwing myself a weekend mini-readathon! I‘m starting off in my office, now that it‘s finally all straightened up. (It should last a week, maybe two. 😝) I‘ve got my books picked out and my velvet gophers by my side. What are you reading this weekend? 📚❤️📚

Liberty @megansaurusrex Thank you! I‘m trying to decide if I want to do the front too. The top took eight hours. That‘s prime reading time. 😂 9mo
megansaurusrex @Liberty Ooh! That would look so cool, might be hard because of the knobs though. Just do it in spurts. 🤣 9mo
ElvinaGB What in the name of God by Simon Rich. Then I'll watch Daniel Radcliffe in the Netflix adaptation Miracle Workers. 9mo
