One Little Secret
One Little Secret: A Novel | Cate Holahan
10 posts | 8 read | 13 to read
Everyone has a secret. For some, its worth dying to protect. For others, its worth killing. The glass beach house was supposed to be the getaway that Susan needed. Eager to help her transplanted family set down roots in their new townand desperate for some kid-free conversationshe invites her new neighbors to join in on a week-long sublet with her and her workaholic husband. Over the course of the first evening, liquor loosens inhibitions and lips. The three couples begin picking up on the others' marital tensions and work frustrations, as well as revealing their own. But someone says too much. And the next morning one of the women is discovered dead on the private beach. Town detective Gabby Watkins must figure out who permanently silenced the deceased. As she investigates, she learns that everyone in the glass house was hiding something that could tie them to the murder, and that the biggest secrets of all are often in plain sight for anyone willing to look. A taut, locked room mystery with an unforgettable cast of characters, One Little Secret promises to keep readers eyes glued to the pages and debating the blinders that we all put on in the service of politeness.

A thriller featuring 3 couples with secrets summering together, embroiled in each other‘s business, relationships & bedrooms.

A quick read, totally bingeworthy. Will def read this author again.

#20in4 Goals @Andrew65
Looking to finish up some current reads before the end of #scarathlon (Babel, which is a #lmpbc I‘m hoping to get done and gone by Monday, but that might be optimistic but I like a tight dead line) House of Salt & Sorrow I have from the library‘s & really excited for that. Mysterious Affair at Styles because I‘ve read tragically little Christie in my life.
It‘s gonna be a busy weekend 🎃

I really enjoyed this. I thought it was paced well, and I definitely wanted to keep reading. It‘s told by way of “The day before”, “The day of”, and “The day after”, referring to the murder, but I thought it was pretty easy to keep track of where I was. In opposition to the title, there were actually quite a few secrets going on in this book! Of course, this is one with all the twists and turns.

anybody else hate when this happens!!

alcassoi Maybe gray/beige?? 🤔 5y
squirrelbrain Yes @alcassoi I agree, it‘s a spelling mistake and should be greige , which is grey / beige. 5y
tournevis Greige is indeed a greyish beige colour, but there's a typo. 👆@alcassoi and @squirrelbrain are right. 5y

Booksblanketsandahotbeverage How many things are grey/beige that they had to make a new word for it? 🤔 5y
rather_be_reading @squirrelbrain @alcassoi @tournevis if it is a mistake that is even more annoying 5y

The story right away sucks you in. You get to know a little bit about the characters and start to learn their secrets and then *spoiler* one of them dies. The plot reminded me of “Big Little Lies” by Liane Moriarty. The fact that all the characters were intertwined together was great. Definitely recommend. As good, if not better than her last book “The Lies We Told.” Great up until even the last page
