A great historical fiction novel set in the beginning of WW2, exploring the effect of war on individuals and families. It highlights the feelings of prejudice and xenophobia, children evacuation, and internment camps. It‘s also part adventure and mystery, as the 12 year old protagonist discovers traitorous spies among the villagers. Well written and captivating.

Besides murder mystery/detective stories, I love reading middle grade books. I‘ll choose the tagged book as it also fulfill #TBRtarot which I have skipped last month.

I‘m also a fan of the 80s music, quite a number of superstars (with influencing fashion styles!) emerged during the time, and I loved watching them all on MTV. When that song is played, I guarantee you will catch me singing along. 🎤 😉

I absolutely loved this middle grades #historicalfiction book. It's set in WWII in a small English coastal town. The protagonist is the daughter of the lighthouse keeper and her mother is German. When her mother is sent to an internment camp and her family starts to crumble, Pet must find her inner courage in order to discover what is really happening and save what is left of her family.

"This war is just like a sea monster, I thought. Sometimes it destroys things violently and openly, and sometimes its tentacles just squeeze in through the cracks of normal life, and it strangles us silently."

The story and the writing held my attention. It was a little contrived. It‘s a quick and easy read.

This book is wonderful!! It‘s about sisterhood and growing up on the home front during WW2. Highly recommended!
