Last book for 2017.... I went ahead and finished it.. the last 25 pages took forever to read ( my problem not the books ). Bring on the new year and light fluffy books.

So we were rear ended 2 weeks ago today... I haven‘t been on Litsy much since or reading for that matter. We all walked away with out major injury... but reading is harder now. Reading after trauma ... thoughts???

DGRachel That‘s scary looking damage! I‘m glad no one seriously injured. {{hugs}} As for post-traumatic reading, I vote for comfort reads-books you always reread or something light and fluffy. 6y
Shemac77 Any kind of trauma takes time for your body and mind to process. Trauma is difficult to muddle through; you can have the physical signs which are more easily dealt with than the mental. The mental takes more time and more diligence. Hope you feel better. 6y
Amie Maybe reread an old favorite that you find comforting? 6y

[DELETED] 3803335244 I‘m so sorry this happened. I‘m glad you & others weren‘t hurt. We were hit 2 years ago in our van. A person was texting & ran the stop sign, hitting us at 40 mph or more. Thankfully like you minor injuries to both parties. (Our entire family including 5 kids were in the car. Thanking my guardian angels). I found it so hard to get back into anything that I had to sit to do for awhile. Reading, crocheting, meditation, anything. My mind would wander 6y
[DELETED] 3803335244 You are definitely feeling normal for just being in an accident. It‘s scary, it‘s emotional, & my heart goes out to you. It does get better. But I admit I was shaken for awhile. Hugs & healing ❤️ 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Don‘t stress your brain right now if it seems hard to read. It‘s healing from the trauma. So glad the humans are okay. 😘 6y
ReadingSusan Omg I am so, so sorry this happened. Give yourself time to heal. These kind of traumas can really distract you. 6y
CocoReads Glad you‘re ok. It‘s the shock. Give it time and the reading will come back. 6y
Rachel.Rencher After I found out my mom was sick, I couldn't get through any books that required much thought. I got really into fluffy, young adult literature books that you could read quickly. Looking back, I bailed on a lot of books I'd probably enjoy now but my mind just wasn't in a good spot. It took about 6 months, but I'm back to reading just about anything. I totally get where you're coming from. 6y
Lcsmcat I‘m glad y‘all are ok, given the damage to your car! Just be gentle with yourself and allow time to process. I was t-boned once when a kid ran a stop sign and it was years before I quit flinching if a car came up to a stop sign when I was already in the intersection. Read something light and funny that can give you a break. 6y
Librarybelle So sorry this happened, but glad everyone is okay! Like others, I would suggest whatever books are considered your fluff, the light books that are fun and do not involve intense reading time. 6y
cobwebmoth I'm sorry you're having to deal with all of that stress, but I'm glad you're physically okay. Hugs! 6y
RaimeyGallant I'm having a hard time picking up the book I was reading when something traumatic happened. It may just be that you need to pick up a different book because you're associating it with the accident. 6y
PurpleyPumpkin So sorry you were in an accident and glad to hear that everyone is physically okay. After a major shock like this, it really takes time for the mind to heal. As other Littens have suggested, perhaps light reads will get you over the hump. But you know what? Maybe you need to take a reading holiday for a bit. You love reading, so you will always come back to it. Take care of yourself. 💜 6y
Bookquilter @DGRachel @Shemac77 @amie Thank you for suggestions. 6y
Bookquilter @ForeverNerdy Thank you. Glad you were all okay too. 6y
Lreads I‘m so sorry you‘ve been through such an awful experience. Be kind to yourself while your mind is processing as you cope. Maybe comforting audiobooks or movies or TV shows? 💙 6y
Bookquilter @ReadingSusan @BarbaraTheBibliophage @CocoReads Thank you. I keep looking at the boys and they seem to have bounced back so fast to normal... just not there 6y
Bookquilter @Rachel.Rencher Thank you. I did read The Map by William Ritter ( short story ) today so I may try Jackaby 6y
Bookquilter @Lcsmcat I am jumping at loud noises .... haven‘t had the guts to drive yet and I wasn‘t driving that night. Thank you for suggestions. 6y
Bookquilter @PurpleyPumpkin Thank you... maybe I should take a holiday from books for a bit. Hard to contemplate doing but considering how little I‘ve actually done in the last 2 weeks it maybe the answer. 6y
Bookquilter @ReadsWithTea Thank you. Audio is a great idea too. 6y
PurpleyPumpkin And that‘s okay! I think we‘ve all done it at times, whether we realized it or not. And when you feel like it, you‘ll be back at it. It may not even take that long. Maybe you just need some downtime. You‘ll get there. 6y
ReadingSusan @Bookquilter don‘t beat yourself up. Kids are super resilient. Adults tend to think what if. Just take the time to feel your feelings. Maybe write down how you are feeling? That always helps me with through something. 6y
Notafraidofwords It‘s terrible. I‘ve been there. It took me months to feel normal. Be patient with yourself. 6y
TaylorMay I'm so sorry to hear about this but I am so so very glad that you are all physically okay. My advise is don't push it. Take this time to catch up on movies or binge a TV show. When you are ready you'll know. I tend to read when things get hectic as a distraction. I either re-read a favorite I haven't picked up in a while or something I know I'll love. Something that will pull me in. Yes, just be patient sending lots of love ❤ 6y
ValerieAndBooks I‘m so glad you‘re all okay physically. Mentally, take it easy as long as you need to — lots of good advice here already 💖 6y
bookwrm526 So glad you are all ok!! 6y
mjdowens So sorry to hear about your accident. Glad to hear everyone is okay. It really is a mental trauma. Took me a couple of weeks after mine to even want to drive again. It will pass though. Try reading a childhood favorite maybe. 6y
[DELETED] 206653737 Oh my gosh glad you are all ok. All I can offer is it takes time to get back into it after something traumatic happens. It will get better. 6y
megt Im so sorry to hear this happened, but glad that you‘re all okay. As others have said, try something that is comforting or what you might normally consider fluff. 💕 6y
Debiw781 I'm so sorry that you've had to go through this but glad you are all okay! What you're experiencing is normal and it's ok to give yourself time to heal. I found that reading light fluffy books or comfort reads was about all I could handle at first but the important thing is to give yourself time to heal. Write, draw, sew... whatever calms you and your brain. Hugs 6y
