Class reunions: a time for memories--good, bad, and, as Virgil Flowers is about to find out, deadly--in the thrilling new novel in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series. Virgil knows the town of Trippton, Minnesota, a little too well. A few years back, he investigated the corrupt--and as it turned out, homicidal--local school board, and now the town's back in view with more alarming news: A woman's been found dead, frozen in a block of ice. There's a possibility that it might be connected to a high school class of twenty years ago that has a mid-winter reunion coming up, and so, wrapping his coat a little tighter, Virgil begins to dig into twenty years' worth of traumas, feuds, and bad blood. In the process, one thing becomes increasingly clear to him. It's true what they say: High school is murder.

Unfortunately not as engaging as some other entries in the series, though fortunately not as dark in tone as some either. There's a point at which I get unsure whether my natural impatience is overtaking objectivity, but this did feel like the pace dragged in places that were supposed to be generating suspense. Glad for the return of certain characters. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/? I appreciate what Sandford tried to do with the theme on economic downturn in rural areas /desperate people without a job market vs big corporate greed, but it feels like an add-on to the sideshow of the salacious product being discussed. Maybe he's got another book in him that could treat that theme in more detail/give it a more serious spotlight. 3mo
Robotswithpersonality 3/? While I hesitate to characterize the views portrayed on gender expression/possible trans identify as condemnatory, I will say they bordered on unenlightened/ignorant, and the characterization of BDSM did indeed smack of small town moral prudery (which fits for at least some of the characters involved). When you pair that with the fact that both elements seemed to have been added to the narrative just for spice, the inclusion feels unsavory. 3mo
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 I keep hoping that as the entries get closer to present day they'll get a little better on multiple fronts, but this is the 2017 entry, and the last published was in 2019. I like Virgil as a character enough to finish out the series.
Maybe it will surprise me! 🤷🏼‍♂️

The Virgil Flowers series is brilliant and I always enjoy the books.
This one doesn't disappoint the humour is there as always and so is "that f**king Flowers"
It's not as action packed as some of the other books in the series but it's still really good.

Well my second book of September and its only the 1st 🙄 When I love a series I do read quickly ❤ Reading a book from another one of my favourite series now. John Sandford's, Virgil Flowers series which is a spin off of my absolute favourite Prey series with Lucas Davenport. This will probably be another quick read and then its back to work Monday after an amazing summer, so will definitely slow back down.

Lurking at Target while waiting for Thing 2 to finish working. I brought a book to read but shopping for more seems more like me....

DGRachel I love Virgil! This was a good entry in the series. 6y
CocoReads @DGRachel I haven‘t made it to Virgil yet, I‘m still dallying with Lucas. But Virgil is next. 6y
DGRachel I‘m actually current with both. The Virgil series is so much fun. 6y
CocoReads I love Sandford‘s writing. Virgil has popped up in the last couple Davenport books so I‘m anxious to get started with his books. 6y

This book couldn‘t be more fitting right now. 6 inches on the ground and still coming down heavy. Windchill advisory until Tuesday. That f🤬ing Flowers is running around a frozen town in Minnesota( I‘m in Iowa) trying to catch a murderer and stop a group of women from making sexually explicit Barbies. Neither goes well. Loved this book. This series is as good as Lucas Davenport.

dsfisher Glasses need cleaned, read it that You were chasing a murderer! I really like this Flowers series. 6y
Booknerd2 @dfisher 😂🤣 I probably should have worded that better. Too cold and snowy to chase anything. 🤣😂🤣 6y
DGRachel I loved this one! 6y
Booknerd2 @DGRachel I agree. The series is just fun and Virgil never takes himself too seriously 😳 6y

It might not be fine literature, but Sandford is always a fun read. Fast paced, with sharp dialogue and it keeps me turning pages.

DGRachel I'll take a good, well-written, enjoyable book over "fine literature" any day! 6y

Another great entry in this spin off series. Poor Virgil, though. Sandford really gives him hell in this one. I'll never look at Barbie or Ken dolls the same way, or without some suspicion. 😂

And the ending. 😱😱

Ready for the next book in the series. I miss That f***in' Flowers already. 😊

DGRachel @dsfisher I hope you appreciate the restraint I'm showing by not running down the hallway to yell "OMG!" and spoil the ending. ?? 6y
lauralovesbooks1 I was going to read this one this weekend, but it sounds like I shouldn't wait that long. :) 6y

Just a thought, but isn't a murder weapon that no one else has access to actually the opposite of perfect? Surely it points the finger of blame directly back at the killer. Maybe he should rethink his plan. 🙄 #dumbcriminal

Excited for some reading candy. 🍭

AlaMich I've never read Sandford but I recently read an article--can't remember where--that made me want to. Do you recommend anything in particular? 6y
DGRachel @AlaMich I love his Prey series and the Virgil Flowers series. Virgil is a spin-off from the original Prey books, so I'd start with those. Rules of Prey is the first one. Also, I'd avoid Saturn Run like the plague. It was a one off sci-fi novel he wrote with Ctein and it was awful. 6y
AlaMich Great, thank you! 😊 6y

I wasn‘t going to sign up, as I know I won‘t get anywhere close to 24 hours, but then I thought I‘d give it a try anyway. So, here‘s my #stack for the #readathon (books in progress, a book for book club, and my Kindle for lots of other options, including the tagged book). #30daysofreadathon

#TBRtemptation post 2! Released soon. This is the 10th installment in the Virgil Flowers series. Class reunions are times for memories--the good, the bad, ' the deadly. Virgil returns to Trippton, Minnesota, where a retired school teacher helped him bring down a homicidal school board. Now, 3 alums from that high school have been killed in unusual ways, and with a class reunion coming up, who knows what'll happen. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

ptkpepe98 I love Virgil Flowers. I visualize him as Sam Elliott, without the drawl.... 6y
Bookzombie @ptkpepe98 I'm definitely going to have to get to this series just because of that. 🙂 6y
wintercherry I read it earlier this week, loved it! John Sandford is the only author that makes me drop whatever I‘m reading as soon as his new book hits my hands. No tbr stack for him 😀 6y

I don't know why I bother with TBR posts. In September, I had six books on my post and I only read three of those. So, understand that this will likely not be an accurate representation of the books I read this month, but for now, this is my #OctoberTBR: the four books I'm currently reading (right side column), two new releases from my most anticipated list, the #24hrr selection, and a #blameitonlitsy audiobook. #SpookyOctober
