An Introvert's Guide to Being Social
An Introvert's Guide to Being Social | Stefan Cain
4 posts | 4 to read
Introvert's Guide to Being Social, written by Stefan Cain who's a self-professed introvert is an easy-to-read, practical guide on how introverts can learn to better understand themselves and improve their communication and networking skills. Beginning with an analysis of what it actually means to be an introvert or extrovert (from a scientific, psychological perspective), Stefan Cain explains what makes someone an introvert or extrovert and how that particular trait manifests itself in everyday life. The second half of the book is devoted to laying out a game plan for introverts in regards to social situations, focusing particularly on those that occur within the workplace or professional sphere. Inside Introvert's Guide to Being Social, you'll learn how to prepare yourself for social situations, as well as tips, tricks, strategies, exercises, and information on effective communication. If you've ever found yourself frozen in conversation, sweating nervously at a party, dreading office events, and making up bizarre excuses in order to get out of social occasions, then this book is for you.

No reading at the moment. I have to be social and I am sitting at a restaurant to meet my bestie and her husband.

No more reading for me today. Visited the Cardinals Sessions Festival in Cologne today with my bestie. So many musicians, so many nationalities. There were singer / songwriters from USA, Canada, Great Britian, Austria and Germany. 😊

Day #Twentyone is World Hello Day so take a moment to say hello, learn hello in another language, or just give a friendly wave. I don‘t have a book about making friends or being social - any good recs for our introverted Littens? (I‘m a more extroverted introvert who just fakes it...sigh...). I‘d love to be able to update this with a picture! #NovemberByTheNumbers

Lindy Ahoy! (Saying hello in Slovak makes me feel like a pirate.) 6y

Best way to socialize for introverts (besides silent reading parties 😜): boardgames & beer. There's a focus to the night and we don't have to engage in small talk! And... beer... so, duh 😍.

TrishB Looks great 👍 7y
hlgreenfield I love boardgames! Some of my favourite nights have been boardgame nights with my best friends. Btw what game is it? Don't seem to recognize it! Looks fun! 7y
BooksForEmpathy @hlgreenfield This one is called Terraforming Mars. It's SO fun!! But also serious and competitive. We like games to be competitive 😎. 7y

hlgreenfield I've heard of that one. Might be my next buy then! Been looking for some news ones to introduce to boardgame night. I love competitive games ( although at times they do get overly competitive 😂 ) 7y
saresmoore Amen to that! This games looks really cool, too. If you're into competitive, there's a game called Acquire—more on the simple & fast-paced side, but lots of strategy. I keep it at the ready to avert unexpected small-talk fiascos. 7y
MaleficentBookDragon Boards (or Cards Against Humanity) and Booze are my second favorite introverted social activity. Movies will always be number 1. You are with people, but don't have to talk. Proven effective since I was 12!😊 7y
MaleficentBookDragon @hlgreenfield My family had to ban Aggravation when I was a tween because we kept hurling the marbles at each other. We also couldn't trust anyone to be banker in Monopoly. You could say my family was a little competitive.😁 7y
hlgreenfield @MaleficentBookDragon oh we stopped playing monopoly years ago in my family! Too many arguments 😂 7y
MaleficentBookDragon @hlgreenfield @saresmoore @BooksForEmpathy can you guys recommend some games for just two people? The #manpanion and I like to play games but don't have people over much since I moved to a new state. We are also super competitive. 7y
hlgreenfield @MaleficentBookDragon I don't usually play games for two. At the moment I can only remember betrayal at the house on the hill and arkham horror but those are co-op games! I'll check my game boxes later to see which ones are good for two players! 7y
LauraBeth @MaleficentBookDragon Two player expert 🙋 we play: blokus for two, ticket to ride, forbidden desert, forbidden island, skip bo, exploding kittens and still a lot of checkers and chess. And monopoly empire. 7y
saresmoore @MaleficentBookDragon Carcassonne is so much fun for two! It's our favorite. And I agree with @LauraBeth re: Ticket to Ride; we play that one on our iPhones sometimes. Ooh! And there's a pretty sweet zombie game called Last Night on Earth that is fun for two. Also Mice & Mystics. 😬 All the things! 7y
CouronneDhiver Yeeeesss! 7y
MyNamesParadise I need this book. I seriously need to make new friends. 7y
BooksForEmpathy @saresmoore Carcassonne!!!! Love that one. So easy to play with two players and also using the phone app. 7y
BooksForEmpathy @MaleficentBookDragon Our favorite two-player game is Hive. It's an easy to transport, quick game that you can play anywhere for any amount of time. There's different insects that can move in different ways and the goal is to surround the your opponent's queen bee with your tiles. It's strategic as well and not about luck. We also love Agricola for two-people. And if you like it there's Agricola for more players, too. 7y
BooksForEmpathy @MaleficentBookDragon Also, movies are my favorite way to spend a few hours, and my partner and I go to at least one a week. The thing with movies with other people is the pressure about if the other person likes the movie or not! I actually like seeing movies solo. With my partner is great. But with anyone else? 😬😬😬😬 increases my anxiety! 7y
