Little Broken Things
Little Broken Things: A Novel | Nicole Baart
An engrossing and suspenseful novel for fans of Liane Moriarty and Amy Hatvany about an affluent suburban family whose carefully constructed facade starts to come apart with the unexpected arrival of an endangered young girl. I have something for you. When Quinn Basset receives that cryptic text message from her older sister Nora, she doesnt think much of it. They havent seen each other in nearly a year and thanks to Noras fierce aloofness, their relationship consists mostly of infrequent phone calls and an occasional email or text. But when a haunted Nora shows up on Quinns doorstep just hours later, a chain reaction is set into motion that will change both of their lives forever. Noras something is more shocking than Quinn could have ever imagined: a little girl, cowering, wide-eyed, and tight-lipped. Nora hands her over to Quinn with instructions to keep her safe, and not to utter a word about the child to anyone, especially not their buttoned-up mother who seems determined to pretend everything is perfect. But before Quinn can ask even one of the million questions swirling around her head, Nora disappears, and Quinn finds herself the unlikely caretaker of a girl introduced simply as Lucy. While Quinn struggles to honor her sisters desperate request and care for the lost, scared Lucy, she fears that Nora may have gotten involved in something way over her headsomething that will threaten them all. But Quinns worries are nothing compared to the firestorm that Nora is facing. Its a matter of life and death, of family and freedom, and ultimately, about the lengths a sister will go to protect the ones she loves.

Families have secrets. Some are small. Some are unbelievable. The Sandersons don‘t talk about any of them. In fact, they rarely talk to each other, at all. That‘s when Nora drops the biggest secret of all on her younger sister, Quinn, and we learn all kinds of things that could put everyone in danger. With a little girl at the center of things, will there be a happy ending? It‘s worth a read to find out. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I finally finished it! My brain has been all over the place and resisting finishing physical books. The big reveal at the end was an easy guess from the beginning but the most important and beautiful parts of the book dealt with the relationships between the women. What it means and what it takes to be a mother. I‘m so glad I was finally able to focus and finish this one. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

After getting though a week-long stint of spring cooties AND successfully passing our two day huge onsite audit at work today, I‘m finally getting some reading time in. I don‘t know what‘s up with me but I‘m struggling to get through this book. I‘ve had it as an ebook loan through Overdrive and checked out the physical copy multiple times. I‘m enjoying the book but it‘s like I have some kind of mental block.🤔Anyone else experience this?

#BookMail today...from my rather aggressive Book buying spree the end of May. The Song Of Achilles is a #blameitonlitsy purchase - not my usual type of reading, but so much love for it.

Notafraidofwords I‘m half way through it and I have anger deep in my bones every time I have to put it down 6y
SledgeReader @Librarybelle Great stack! Also being a librarian I know the temptation you endure every day at work. There is NO way we can read all the great books we see. 📚 6y

Librarybelle @Notafraidofwords That‘s a great recommendation! I love that!! 6y
Librarybelle @SledgeReader Thanks! We librarians are constantly tempted with the new and shiny and the classics and rereads! If I see something at a good price, I‘ll grab it for my personal library and recommend it like crazy to everyone I see. 6y
SledgeReader @Librarybelle It‘s a hazardous job in that regard! The few, the proud, the librarians! I do the same with purchases. If it‘s one I really loved I‘ll pick up extras so I can gift when I recommend. 6y

I thought this was a decent book but it seemed a little scattered and I‘m not sure the end really made sense. In fact there are a couple characters that still confused me as to their relevance. Overall, an okay read. Kept me turning pages for sure with a nice little surprise twist at the end.

Relaxing in bed this am with a book and a GREAT movie. The reviews on this book are very mixed and I get why. I‘m a little over half way, I like it but it seems a little all over the place. And I don‘t like the mother. She‘s so whiney! I‘m hoping to finish today if I can ignore most of what I should get done.

Starting this tonight after quite a busy day. Got our new washer dryer delivered and have done like 6 loads of laundry. I‘m loving this new set! We also got new carpet in our master bedroom installed this morning and within 15 minutes my dog peed on it. She‘s now pretty much permanently in a diaper.

The story follows the events that transpired between three women, a mother and her two daughters, after Nora mysteriously leaves a child in the care of her sister Quinn. The character development was EXCELLENT! Some of the revelations came about a bit too late for me but overall, the book was very entertaining and the characters were superb! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. #💜themrs

Solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️#5Book5Bingo #1down23togo

Laylafinn Was it similar to big little lies? 6y
Kdazy @Laylafinn I saw that comparison but I didn't think it was as well developed or as good as Big Little Lies. It reminded me more of Diane Chamberlain books. It still has the mystery and twists that I love though! (edited) 6y

The story started off strong and was intriguing but the characters weren‘t well developed and that made the story feel shallow.

This book started really slow it. It wasn‘t a horrible read, just not one I would normally pick. My problem with reading the mystery genre is that most of the time I know what the mystery is so I spoil the ending for myself. This was the first book I read this year and would recommend it only if you like mysteries.

Wow this book was fantastic! I was at the edge of my seat with this one and was turning pages all through the night! I really enjoyed this author‘s writing and multi-layered characters. This was a book that can show you how quick family secrets and deceit can spiral down into chaos! I give this book 5 out of 5 stars and would definitely recommend checking this book out. #bookreview #bookblog #booknerdigans #bookbloggers #bookworm #book #earc

Family drama with secrets and the lengths that a mother will go through to protect her child. I‘m somewhere between a pick and a so-so. The twist wasn‘t hard to figure out midway through.

There is so much heart in this story! It‘s a great look at the resilience of humans and how people put their broken pieces back together to make a new life, often with help from unlikely places. The mystery aspect wasn‘t hard to figure out but the characters were wonderful. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Past secrets and strained relationships are at the heart of Baart's newest novel. Nora, estranged from her sister, Quinn, sends a cryptic text before showing up on her doorstep with a little girl. Nora abruptly leaves the girl in Quinn's care instruction to keep her safe and no questions.

By telling the story through multiple viewpoints Baart slowly reveals the circumstances that led Nora to leaving the little girl in her sister's care.
